What is the 5th Test in the Four- Way Test?

1) Is it the Truth?

2) Is it Fair to ALL Concerned?

3) Will it Build Goodwill and Better Friendships?

4) Will it be Beneficial to All Concerned?

5) IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
 - in other words, will it be neutral in its use of the earth's scarce resources and will it not damage the planet's vital life support systems?

The trust is a charitable foundation registered by the Charity Commission in England and Wales, REGISTRATION NO: 1122835

The Challenge:

Today humanity needs the equivalent of 1.4 planets to provide the resources we use.
Moderate UN scenarios suggest that if current population and consumption trends continue,
by the middle of the next decade we will need the equivalent of two Earths to support us.
That is not sustainable.

Rotarians have a responsibility to seek sustainable solutions.

Sustainability = Responsibility

What's the 5th Test in the Four-Way Test?
Is it SUSTAINABLE?

Montreal Convention Success!

Montreal was a Breakthrough RI Convention for the Trust. It took us to over 500 Rotarians & their Clubs linked into the database, the best convention response ever. For the first time Rotarians were coming to Booth 2611 for ideas and suggesting projects of their own. Thanks to all who helped to make it so successful.

Please help us add new Rotarians - use the link at the bottom LHS of this e.mail to send it to colleagues in other Clubs, suggesting that they register HERE to get these monthly e.mails.

New Ideas from the Montreal Convention:

South Africa Solar Cooker Project
We were encouraged by Montreal Key Speaker Queen Noor's comments about the devastating impact of Sustainability and Climate Change on the world's poorest people.
We're working with R.C. Fresno and R.C. Kirstenbosch to expand the South Africa Solar Cooking project into more townships. To read a local newspaper article about the work done so far in South Africa, click HERE

RI President Ray Klinginsmith
RI President-elect Ray Klinginsmith has adopted the slogan 'Building Communities & Bridging Continentsfor his year of office. The Trust has respectfully pointed out that his slogan should be 'Building Sustainable Communities and Bridging Continents'.

However, Ray's following comments also show we are on the same wavelength... 'Rotary is the best in the world at linking people of goodwill around the globe and then gaining their cooperation and support to make the world a much better place to live and work.'

That's exactly what The Sustainability Trust aims to do, by linking all 33,784 Clubs into this internet based forum for Rotarians' to share ideas on how to make our planet a sustainable place to live for future generations.

Click HERE to see the Club leaflet handed out in Montreal. If you want us to send copies to your Club, e.mail us.

The Trust acts as a forum to raise these issues and create ideas for Rotary Clubs that will improve sustainability in the long-term, and ideally provide humanitarian benefits at the same time.

We owe this to future generations
