Greetings and happy holiday season!  Do you remember what first sparked your curiosity for the natural world? Read Saul Weisberg’s reflections on his earliest inspiration and 30 years of connecting people and nature through his work as executive director of North Cascades Institute in our year-end letter. Then, please make a gift to create new sparks for the next generation ~ powerful, place-based learning experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds in the North Cascades.

We’re excited to have new 2017 Learning Center Classes and Field Excursions online and open for registration, along with the slate of 2017 Family Getaways. Plan ahead and you can save 20% off any of these transformative learning experiences in nature by purchasing gift certificates for yourself, family and friends. Order by Dec. 22 and you’ll get $100 value towards 2017 programs for only $80! Call (360) 854-2599 or email nci@ncascads.org to purchase; does not apply towards Skagit Tours.

Please note that our office will be closed December 23-January 2.

Brian ScheuchFond Farewell to our Friends

We're saddened by the passing of Brian Scheuch, a friend, mentor and inspiration, as well as a passionate naturalist of the Northwest. He played a key role in our formative days and served on our board of directors for many years. Enjoy this short video tribute we made to honor this great man: https://youtu.be/vAa6c9_6yps.

Polly Dyer Saul Weisberg NCI 25Northwest conservation legend Polly Dyer also has passed on recently. Without her tenacity and love of wild places, we might not have North Cascades National Park or the wild coastline and ancient Hoh River Valley of Olympic National Park. Thank you Polly, and may your love of wild places and willingness to fight for them inspire all of us moving forward into an uncertain future. Enjoy this profile and remembrance on our blog: www.chattermarks.org.
