Summer in the North Cascades...so many things to do!
1606-Field-Notes

Happy June! As summer approaches, our Environmental Learning Center gets busier and busier! This month we’re wrapping up spring Mountain School, sending out the first Youth Leadership Adventures trip, offering a birding weekend and photography workshop, welcoming people to our Base Camp “learning and lodging” program and hosting the Cascade Loop Board Retreat, Whatcom Weavers gathering, a youth summit, physics conference, yoga retreat, the Interagency Grizzly Bear Forum and the UW Doris Duke Conservation Scholars students. Whew!

Our M.Ed. graduate students are busy too with a transition day wrapping up their residency at the Learning Center and pivoting towards their summer leadership tracks. This year they're working with organizations as diverse as the National Park Service, Classroom in Bloom, the US Forest Service, Methow Valley Interpretive Center and Redfish School of Change.

Down in the lowlands, as part of our year-long celebration of the National Park Service's Centennial, we’re excited to partner with Village Books to present acclaimed nature writer Terry Tempest Williams June 15 at the Mount Baker Theater in Bellingham to share her new book The Hour of Land: A Personal Topography of America's National Parks. Click here for ticket info and more. (You can also catch her at Seattle's Town Hall on June 16.)

A big shout-out to everyone who supported our Give Big for Youth campaign last month. You gave more than $158,000 to provide transformative experiences for young people in the North Cascades this year! And we're also thrilled to be one of 19 organizations in Washington State to receive No Child Left Inside grant funding this year. And one last hurray to the 40+ people who came to the Learning Center last month and lent a hand for our annual Stewardship Weekend, getting the local environment in good shape for the busy summer to come.
