Celebrating 30 years in the North Cascades!
16-02-Enews-Header

It's hard to believe, but North Cascades Institute turns 30 years old this year! What started out as a wild dream between a ragtag group of climbing rangers, naturalists and educators around a campfire in the North Cascades in the mid-1980s has manifested in to an organization of 45 professional staff and a 15-member board of directors helping to connect over 10,000 people to this special place every year through dozens of programs

From a shared desk in the backroom of a North Cascades National Park Visitors Center to the award-winning North Cascades Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake, the growth of the Institute is an inspiring story and we'll be sharing more of it over the year (you can watch "The High Ridge," a video about the Institute's evolution made for our 25th anniversary, here).

We'll announce special events throughout the year to celebrate this milestone - as well as the National Park Service's Centennial -- and suggest you "Save the Date" for a free Anniversary Picnic at the Learning Center on July 17.

Winter is a great time to plan ahead to join the Institute in 2016, whether at the Environmental Learning Center on Diablo Lake for a Family Getaway or class on photography, art or ecology or on a Field Excursion sailing in the San Juan Islands, hiking Sauk Mountain or canoeing the Skagit River. Check out the calendar below, visit ncascades.org/get_outside or call our friendly registrars at (360) 854-2599 to sign up.

Later this month, we will post the second half of our program calendar for July-December, including more classes, Base Camp dates and Skagit Tours ~ even more routes to experience your Wild Nearby in 2016.

Like us on Facebook to find out when they are posted and other exciting news!
