Question: I'd like to trim my pet's nails myself but I'm worried about hitting the quick (where the blood vessels in the nail are) and causing my pet's nails to bleed?

Answer: Even after years of experience it is still easy to hit the quick especially on dark colored nails as it can be hard to see.

Start by taking very small pieces of the nail tip at first. This will give both you and your pet more confidence. It will also help to start moving the quick back. The longer a pet's nails get the longer the quick gets, but by regular trimming you can move the quick back.

Another solution for avoiding the quick are the new Quick Finder Clippers. These clippers have an electronic sensor in them that senses the quick and lets you know when it is safe to cut.
