The Brown Bag SIG is sponsoring a webinar on land platting using the software program "Metes & Bounds" by Sandy Knoll Software.
Presenter William B. Dow, Jr. has used Metes & Bounds for several years as an investigative tool in platting family properties and correlating them.
Registrants can participate in these sessions either at home or in the Hamon Room on the 5th floor of the downtown Dallas Public Library via the GoToMeeting webinar software.
The deadline to register is Sept 24 by mail and Oct 2 via online.

Georgia Closes State Archives
The Office of the Georgia Secretary of State has announced that, effective November 1, 2012, the Georgia State Archives located in Morrow, GA will be closed to the public. After November 1st, the public will only be allowed to access the building by appointment; however, the number of appointments could be limited based on the schedule of the remaining employees.
Family Tree Magazine calls DPL One of The Top 10 Public Libraries For Family Research
In an effort to identify the 10 best public libraries for genealogists, the magazine weighed factors such as collection size, census records, special collections, accessibility, geographic coverage, special collections and services.
