December Awards Luncheon

Our annual Awards Luncheon will be held Saturday, December 10th on the 7th floor in the O'Hara Room.  It will be catered and free for current members.  There will be a $15.00 charge for non-members.

To register online, log in to your account on the Account Manager page.  Select "Current Events" from the "What Do Want to Do?" drop down menu.   [Any questions regarding your account, e-mail administrator@dallasgenealogy.org]

To register by mail, download a reservation form from the DGS website.

Registration is a must as we need a head count for the caterer.  Online registration deadline is December 3rd. Mail in registration must be postmarked by November 30th.

As this is an awards luncheon, if you have someone you would like to nominate for an award, please contact Jean Larson at education@dallasgenalogy.org as soon as possible.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DGS!!!

As mentioned in an earlier eblast, the DGS Website was in the running for an award at the Texas State Genealogical Society Convention held this past weekend.  Thanks to the hard work of Tony Hanson, the DGS Website won first place!  Great Job!
.

CHANGES TO BYLAWS

After many months of meetings, changes, rewritings, etc., the new Bylaws were rewritten and they were passed by the members at last weeks General meeting.

Many thanks go out to the Bylaws Change Committee for all their dedication and hard work.  It is greatly appreciated.

Featured Item from the DGS Store

#505: Rolling Back Pack. The sale price is $29.95! These packs will hold up to a 17 inch computer with plenty of room left over for a small scanner or printer along with your files.  The front panel is great for holding any pens, pencils, stapler, paper clips or any other supplies you might need while doing research. The front panel is also removable.  It would make a nice Christmas present!

Purchase from the DGS Online Store or at the Volunteer Desk in the Genealogy Department of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library, 1515 Young Street.

Technology SIG Contest

I just wanted to remind you all that the December 1 meeting will be a chance for you to show off YOUR project and compete for the $25 Fry’s gift card. Here are a few ideas for possible projects:

  • Create a presentation in PowerPoint, Jing or Camtasia
  • Create a Blog
  • Create a Wiki (I have just added some new references to the web page)
  • Add information to the Family Search wiki
  • Add information and pictures to Add a Grave
  • Create your own web site
  • Scan some documents or pictures
  • Do something interesting with Google Tools
  • Participate in a Family Search scanning project
  • Enhance some pictures or images
  • Show off some images you photographed
Information on all of these topics is available on the Technology SIG web page.

The judging criteria include: the degree of difficulty, how much you learned and the quality of your presentation. Bring any questions you have to the November Technology SIG meeting… Tony
