May and June were good months for our family here in Papua New Guinea. As in most other places, the end-of-the-school year included lots of extra functions and activities. We were definitely ready for this school break by the time it got here. Most of you can probably relate.
Being in-between school years here means a bare-bones staff. Many families have returned to their home countries for a year's furlough, others for a short break or medical treatment. In a few weeks we'll see this place fill up again as new missionaries arrive and others return. In the meantime, many of us "left behind" are taking on extra jobs to keep things running smoothly.
Rebekah began teaching in mid-April. She filled in as the 2nd Grade Language Arts teacher. Not only was she Claira (our middle child's) teacher, but it was a good warm-up for getting back into the swing of teaching school. Lesson plans, grading papers, and classroom management have once again become familiar. For the '09-'10 school year, Rebekah will be teaching 7th Grade Geography.
There are many holes in the Finance Office right now, which means Ron has taken on several additional responsibilies. At present, he is handling Accounts Payable, Banking, and Personnel Management. These jobs were previously handled by three others. With the school year finishing up, Rebekah began filling another one of the holes by spending a couple mornings a week in the Finance Office. It's a flashback to her bank teller days and she's enjoying it.
There were also a few days where there was a nurse shortage in the clinic. So, you guessed it, Ron filled in there. He found it refreshing to be back in the clinical atmosphere and he plans to keep up his skills by occasionally helping out as time allows.

"Lord, please keep the Greens safe" is a prayer that God continues to answer. Thank you for praying that on our behalf. An example of this happened last weekend. We were on our way back from Lae. Lae is an industrial town about 4 hours away. NTM has a guest house there where we can stay at a very reasonable price. We travelled with another family for a weeklong break, as well as to do some shopping in a town that has better choices and prices. On the way back, the van gave out. God's protection was on us, however, as the place we broke down was in a shaded area with a safe pull-off and a village of kind-hearted people who looked after us. Just another mile down the road would've left us stranded in the sweltering sun & a not-so-safe place to stop.
This week, Ron is working with a short-term visitor. She is an accounting major and is participating in the Interface program. Interface is college-level, 6 week course that opens up the world of tribal missions to students. Lacey, pictured here, is interested in using her accounting studies to further the Gospel and elected to spend a few days in our Finance Office to see how that is possible.
