Support GR!C on eBay

Attention eBay sellers and shoppers! Girls Rock! Chicago is now part of MissionFish, eBay's charitable giving program. eBay sellers, you can now donate a portion of your proceeds to GR!C. Your donation will get you a sweet tax write-off and increase traffic to your sale items, since supporters of GR!C can search for sellers who donate to us. Buyers can help by telling their favorite sellers about how awesome they’ll feel if they donate a portion of their sales to GR!C. Keep an eye on our auction page for stylish ways to support GR!C. But if you get snaked on that vintage bag you had your eye on, you can still put your dollars to work for young girl rockers by donating directly to GR!C.

A note from GR!C board member, Heather Manning

On May 29th, I participated in the Soldier Field 10 Mile Run in order to raise money for Girls Rock! Chicago. I think it's important to note that I am not really a "runner." I've run in a few 5K races (3.1 miles), but had not run more than 5 miles since college. However, this was something I had wanted to do for some time, so decided to go for it. Asking people to donate to Girls Rock! was not only a great way to raise some money for the organization, but a great way to keep me motivated. I knew that if people cared enough about me and the organization to donate, I had to work hard to finish the race. It was a crazy race—at one point we were even told the event was closed because it was becoming too hot and humid. While approaching mile 8, I really began to feel like I couldn't finish the race. I was tired and my knees were killing me. But I kept moving. And while I was running, I started thinking about Girls Rock! Chicago. At first, I was telling myself, "I can't do this. I can't finish." And (I swear I'm not making this up) then I started to think about what we teach the girls at camp. That they CAN. They can do anything they want! I started getting teary-eyed! So I pulled myself together and worked hard to keep my legs moving. And guess what? I won! Okay, I didn't. I didn't even come close. 10,000 people signed up for the run. About 8,500 people finished, and I think I finished in 8,100 place. But where I finished is not nearly as important as the fact that I finished. It was a great feeling. And knowing that I was helping my favorite organization while doing it made the day even better. I'm writing this not only to share my story, but to let you know that there are lots of ways you can help raise money for Girls Rock! Chicago! You don't have to run 10 miles to do it either! You can host a party! Sell homemade goods! Just ask friends to help out! You'd be surprised at people's willingness to help. See you this summer at camp.
