Our August camp was a huge success, thanks in large part to a lot of generous people who gave their time and services to Girls Rock! Chicago. We would like to thank all of the restaurants who helped keep our volunteers well fed: Handlebar, Birchwood Kitchen, Chipotle (Bucktown), Potbelly (Bucktown), Lucia Ristorante, Noodles and Co., Francesca's Forno, Bleeding Heart Bakery, Fritz Pastry, NYC Bagel Deli, Starbucks, Whole Foods (Lincoln Park), Wilde Bar & Restaurant, Fat Willy’s Rib Shack, Cliff Bar/Luna Bar, Christina Ward, and Robin Melvin.

Special thanks to Josephinum Academy in Wicker Park for providing space for not one, but two(!) bustling rock camps this summer. Like Girls Rock! Chicago, Josephinum strives to empower young women and has offered to provide scholarships to participants of both June and August’s GR!C camps. In addition, we would like to thank Jennifer Vander Ploeg & Chicago Foundation for Women, and One Brick Chicago for providing us up with hard working volunteers for load-in and load-out. Thanks also to Threadless and Cordinated for helping the girls get crafty in some truly outstanding workshops.

We were happy to offer our campers DJ instruction for the very first time this year, with the help of Cage and Aquarium Productions and the following fabulous lady DJs: Dani Deahl, DJ Code Blue, DJ Katy, DJ Ang.G, and DJ Lady D.

And of course, HUGE thanks go to everyone who volunteered their time. Counselors, instrument instructors, band coaches, roadies, foodies, workshop leaders, before and after care providers—we couldn’t do it without every single one of you!

Ladies Nite: A Fundraiser for Girls Rock! Chicago

Renegade Craft Fair

GR!C is setting up shop at the Renegade Craft Fair. We’ll be offering a wide variety of Girls Rock! Chicago merchandise: limited edition silkscreened posters, logo t-shirts and hoodies, endlessly entertaining camper CDs, as well as handmade goods crafted by talented campers, volunteers, and friends of GR!C. Stop by, check out some awesome one-of-a-kind goods, and help support a great cause!

Chicago Outfit Roller Derby Bout

Get in on the derby action when Chicago Outfit takes on the ladies of Sioux Falls, SD. Chicago Outfit, Chicago’s only not-for-profit roller derby league, proudly contributes charitably to other non-profit organizations. A portion of the proceeds from this bout will benefit Girls Rock! Chicago making this a perfect time to support local derby if you haven’t already. After all, it’s good fun for ALL AGES.

Gear Loan Day

Attention GR!C Campers and Parents! To give all campers from both sessions of camp a chance to borrow instruments, we’re setting aside a day for girls to check out gear from the Girls Rock! Chicago library. This will also be a great opportunity to get together with camp friends outside of camp and, because this is ROCK camp, there will be bands! Please save the date and we’ll be in touch with more details soon. First Annual Silent Auction

Girls Rock! Chicago is setting up shop on Etsy! Please help us stock our store with a wide variety of goods to represent all the DIY goodness in the Girls Rock! community. If you’ve got skills - sewing, knitting, drawing, jewelry making, painting, photography, screenprinting, throwing pottery, woodworking, or anything in between - consider donating your talents in the form of a lovingly handmade item or two. From there we’ll photograph your item and list it for sale in our (coming soon!) store. We’ll even give you or your crafty business props in the item description.
