    Freeman hosts 12th annual Biz Plan Competition
Tulane Business Plan CompetitionThe Tulane Entrepreneurs Association (TEA) has announced the six finalists for the 2012 Tulane Business Plan Competition and Domain Companies New Orleans Entrepreneur Challenge, which together will award $70,000 in cash prizes to two promising new ventures. The competitions will take place at the A. B. Freeman School of Business on Tulane University’s uptown campus on Friday, April 13, with the winners to be announced later that evening during the Tulane Council of Entrepreneurs Awards Gala at the Audubon Tea Room.

School in India named in honor of John Elstrott
John ElstrottJohn Elstrott’s name has been synonymous with entrepreneurship education at the Freeman School for more than 25 years. Now, thanks to a California-based company, Elstrott’s name is synonymous with education in rural India as well.In December, Traditional Medicinals honored Elstrott with the dedication of the Dr. John B. Elstrott Elementary School in Dayakaur, Rajasthan, India. The school, located approximately 120 miles from Jodhpur in the Thar Desert, is one of three built in India by the company, a maker of herbal medicinal teas and dietary supplements. Elstrott has been a board member and partner in the company for more than 30 years.

Freeman expands relationship with Zhejiang
Dean Solomon and Executive Dean WuThe Freeman School has signed an agreement with China’s Zhejiang University to begin admitting students from its School of Management to the Freeman School’s Master of Accounting and Master of Finance programs. The new agreement, signed by Freeman School Dean Ira Solomon and School of Management Executive Dean Xiaobo Wu, expands a relationship the Freeman School had previously had exclusively with Zhejiang’s Honors College.

Consortium attracts top Latin American scholars
LARC_group_DSC_0101_200More than 50 deans, administrators and scholars from business schools across Latin America converged on the Freeman School in March for the 13th meeting of the Latin American Research Consortium (LARC). The Freeman School founded the consortium in 1995 to promote scholarly research on Latin American markets and business institutions. In 2007, the consortium added a dean’s workshop to the program to enable senior administrators from member institutions to share information on program development and strategic planning.

Greenbaum and Altman to be honored
Jerry GreenbaumJay AltmanThe Freeman School will honor Jerry M. Greenbaum (BBA ’62) as Tulane Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year and Jay Altman as Tulane Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the 2012 Tulane Council of Entrepreneurs Award Gala, which will take place on Friday, April 13, at the Audubon Tea Room. The Freeman School’s Levy-Rosenblum Institute for Entrepreneurship presents the awards each year to highlight outstanding entrepreneurs in the community. The Tulane Distinguished Entrepreneur of Year Award honors individuals who embody the true spirit of entrepreneurship and philanthropic generosity, while the Tulane Outstanding Social Entrepreneur of the Year Award recognizes individuals dedicated to improving the community through entrepreneurial initiatives. Ira Solomon, dean of the Freeman School, and John Elstrott, executive director of the Levy-Rosenblum Institute, will present the awards.

Dean to host brunch honoring Aldrich Society
Morton A. Aldrich SocietyDean Ira Solomon and Mrs. Susan Solomon will host a brunch on Sunday, April 29, honoring members of the Morton A. Aldrich Society. The society, named after the Freeman School’s first dean, was established in 1984 to recognize the generosity of alumni, parents, faculty and friends who donate $1,500 or more to the Freeman School within a single year. PhD seeks alumni for work environment survey
watercoolerA Freeman School PhD student is conducting a study on work environment perceptions and employee relationships in the workplace, and she invites alumni to take part. The survey should take approximately 10 –15 minutes to complete, and your responses will be anonymous and therefore strictly confidential. Freeman School Graduate Reunion

The date of this year’s Freeman Graduate Reunion is fast approaching, so if you’d like to attend, don’t forget to make your reservations. We scheduled this year’s reunion to coincide with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, so now you’ve got twice the reason to make the trip back to New Orleans and the Freeman School. The reunion honors MBA, MACCT and MFIN grads from the milestone classes of ’62, ’67, ’72, ’77, ’82, ’87, ’92, ’97, ’02 and ’07. The reunion will take place on the evening of Friday, May 4, in Parkview Terrace at City Park (second floor of the Casino building), just a short walk or taxi ride from the Fair Grounds.
