CIS of Kansas is honored to be a part of the Kansas
Building Partnerships for Youth Development (KsBPYD) team along with five other
Kansas organizations. Together the group
will participate in an 18-month professional, program, and policy development project
in collaboration with similar teams from around the country. The team will work to build long-term
objectives for the state of Kansas, including identification of benchmarks for
high-quality youth work in our state.
The team will also sponsor professional development opportunities for
organizations that work with youth.
In January, the Kansas team was one of six selected to
attend a national kick-off meeting in Maryland.
Together, they developed a framework for identifying and developing
tools and resources that can be integrated in a sustainable way. With the joint efforts of the KsBPYD team, the
resources available to youth across Kansas in the eight critical elements of
Positive Youth Development will be strengthened. They are:
1. A relationship with a caring adult
2. A safe environment--physically, emotionally and
psychologically
3. An inclusive environment to experience a sense
of belonging
4. Opportunities for mastery
5. Engagement in learning
6. Opportunities for self-determination
7. Opportunities to see oneself as an active
participant in the future--sense of hope
8. Opportunities to value and practice community
service
Additional members for the Kansas Building
