Ten Ways You Can Help

1.  Volunteer.  Our affiliates have many different volunteer opportunities from mentoring a child to filing in the office.  Click here for our affiliates' contact information.

2.  Become an advocate for Communities In Schools.  Just sign up for Policy Updates and you'll get emails with easy ways for you to write your legislators and tell them you value our children's education.

3.  Next time you shop online, click through GoodShop for a portion of your purchase to be donated to CIS.  Just select Communities In Schools of Kansas as your charity and start shopping!

4.  Donate to CIS.  Every dollar makes a difference, and we know how to leverage your donation to make the greatest impact.

5.  Donate school and office supplies.  Providing items like crayons, notebooks, and markers really helps students prepare for school.

6.  Want to give, but just can't afford it?  Create a FirstGiving page, tell why CIS is important to you, set a fundraising goal, and ask your friends to help you meet it.

7.  Help us recruit!  Do you know someone wanting to make a change in their career?  Who is passionate about volunteering?  Who wants to help children in Kansas achieve their highest potential?  Tell them about AmeriCorps VISTA.  VISTAs serve full time for one year and receive a living stipend during service.  Learn more and find open positions at www.americorps.gov/vista.

8.  Get to know the kids in your neighborhood.   Kids can never have enough positive role models.

9.  Notice a child's strengths and ask them to help you with a project.

10. Smile.  A smile is free, takes less time and work than a frown, and spreads goodwill wherever it goes.

July is a time of transition for the Communities In Schools of Kansas Board of Directors.  We want to welcome new board members Julie Ford, of the Kansas State Department of Education, and David Johnson, of Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center.

We are also saying farewell to Bill Hagerman, whose term of service ends just as his new role as Superintendent of Nickerson-South Hutchinson School district begins.   Best wishes, Bill!
