 Dear CLR Participant,

We hope you and your teammates are busy training for the 2nd Annual Cascade Lakes Relay!  We're excited to have you join us for what we believe is Oregon's most beautiful, challenging, and intimate long distance relay.

Please don't miss the critical updates below!  ~ Scott

Critical Reminders:
  1. CLR apparel is now for sale on Active.com (1/2 zip running jackets & fleeces and running caps)! Click here to see the apparel for pre-sale.  Read more about Green Layer eco-friendly apparel.
  2. Please make sure you've given your team captain a realistic 10k time.  Keep in mind the higher elevation & multiple legs; we recommend not giving your personal best, but a realistic time for running a 10k distance multiple times during the weekend.
  3. Don't forget about our Referral Program.  Refer a new team to the CLR and receive a $75 gas card for your team and $75 will be donated to the designated charity of your choice!
  4. The updated Race Map has been posted and start times will be posted no later than June 15th.  We will inform team captains when they have been posted.
  5. Consider running the Smith Rock Sunrise Summer Classic on Saturday, July 11that Smith Rock State Park.  We are offering a 1/2 marathon, 10K run/walk, and 5K fun run/walk.  This race is a great opportunity to train with your team for the altitude & distance of CLR, then have brunch, and make team plans for CLR!  Check out the website for more details:  www.SmithRockRace.com or register now on Active.com!
After our inaugural year we asked participants to fill out a survey, which you did in record numbers - thank you.  Here's what you recommended, and what we're doing to make the 2009 Cascade Lakes Relay even better!

You asked for it…

  We’ve answered!

An inside sleep area in LaPine

The LaPine gym will be open for sleeping this year

Trash receptacles at exchange points

Trash receptacles will be located at every even numbered exchange points...clean out those stinky vans!

More porta-potties at major exchanges

We’ve increased the number of porta potties at all major exchanges!

Recycling at exchange points

As one of our efforts towards going green, there will be recycling containers at all even numbered exchange points,  sleep over areas and the finish line – thanks for asking!

Women’s shirts available?

Yep, even size small. :)  All shirts are 100% recycled tech shirts from Green Layer.

Finisher’s metals

All finishers will receive a medal this year

Vegetarian food available for purchase

Veggie grub will be available at sleepover areas and the finish line

Cattle crossings marked/covered/lighted

They will definitely be marked and covered!

Better prize for winning teams

All members of division winning teams will receive an engraved “Division Winner” CLR beer/water glass, plus a free round to kick off the festivities!

Participant shirts for Drivers

We have to meet you half-way on this one.  Not all teams have drivers, and we can’t absorb the cost…but we’re providing the opportunity for teams to purchase a discounted participant tech-shirt for your drivers/volunteers before the race, which they will receive at the finish line with the rest of the team.

Clear instructions/training for volunteers

We’ve hired a Volunteer Coordinator who will ensure that volunteers are well organized and that their time is well spent.

Improved finish line activities

We’ve made huge improvements to the finish line this year.  We’ll give you the finish line schedule of events prior to the event so you can plan your evening.  The beer garden will be more accessible, the band will start earlier, food will be available earlier, more vendors/booths/demos, and the awards ceremony will be earlier.

Back roads wherever possible

Good news – we found a dirt road parallel to Hwy 97 from Military Crossing to Exch Point #4; no running on Hwy 97!

Note road type for each leg on course map

  Done

Start times more condensed; competing teams from the same division starting together

No problem… more opportunities for road kill!

Start times and volunteer assignments provided earlier

You’ll have them by June 15th if registered by June 1st

Bigger signs and numbered exchanges

Signs will be larger, volunteers will be stationed at more intersections, and exchanges will be numbered for easy sighting
