WHEN IS A $60 BOTTLE A STEAL?
Dear Eric
We have arrived at the release of The Rocks Cabernet Sauvignon 2005. Mike Hirby’s second vintage under Rockledge Vineyards.
Steven Tanzer, International Wine Cellar writes: Juicy, fruit driven and concentrated, with an impressively layered texture to the lush, sweet red fruit flavors. 92 Outstanding
In Tanzer’s annual review of 155 of Napa’s best cabernet sauvignon based wines from the 2005 vintage The Rocks ROCKED compared with its famous competitors in score and price. Out of all 155 wines reviewed, no wine scored as well as Rockledge at its price of $60 per bottle. In fact, most sell for multiples of $60.
So what would you rather buy: • One bottle of Rudd Oakville Estate (91) for $120 or two bottles of Rockledge (92)? • One bottle of Opus One (92) for $180 or three bottles of Rockledge (92)? • One bottle of Bryant Family (90) for $300 or five bottles of Rockledge (92)?
While you’re ruminating may we remind you of our 2006 Chardonnay Alder Springs Vineyard and the 2006 Roussanne Saralee’s Vineyard. These wines appear on wine lists at Per Se, Gary Danko and Press. Let’s just say you shouldn’t miss these as only a handful of cases are left.
Ray Isle, Senior Wine Editor of Food and Wine Magazine: “You wouldn’t cause yourself grave damage drinking the 2006 Rockledge Saralee’s Vineyard Roussanne…unless you liked it so much you inhaled the entire bottle and went zooming off in search of more…
We invite you to join us again this year as we release the outstanding wines of Mike Hirby and Rockledge Vineyards. Please purchase by November 17th to ensure shipment by Thanksgiving.
Best to you!
