How do I use the study guides to prepare?
The EDAC Study Guides are great resources for studying for the exam. They're also the perfect evidence-based design reference tools. As you read these study guides, it is important to understand their purpose, the facts, how to find your focus. The quoted tips below are from EDAC accredited individuals.
Purpose: The guides are meant to run parallel
to the exam and offer insights on EBD even beyond the scope of the exam. If you just want to learn about EBD in healthcare, the Study Guide Series serves as a helpful overview.
"Focus on applying the knowledge
of EDAC to real life situations."
The Facts: While terms, trends and
facts may help to understand the process, context and history, that is not what you
will be tested on. Use the Detailed Content Outline (DCO) along with the Study Guides to understand what is most important for the exam.
"Don't focus on trying to memorize the little details and nuances."
"Be sure to read the sidebars since
the test is geared towards experience."
Find a Focus: Based on
your industry experience, there may be a guide with which you need to spend
more time. Find a
study focus. For example, you may already know the design process, but aren't as familiar with the research - so focus on Guide Two.
"Spend
time on the guides where you have the least experience first, then follow the
content outline only."
