Rockin' Region 3!

The 2009 Region 3 Conference was a tremendous success! Close to 200 individuals from 5 states participated in a Pre-Conference Mentor Workshop facilitated by Lorrie Renker of New York and Pebbles Turbeville of North Carolina.  CAT Training was facilitated by Leslie Shear of Maryland followed by three days of dynamic speakers, glorious weather, and wonderful networking.

Our thanks to all 21 (!) presenters who took time out of there busy schedules to enlighten the attendees on a variety of topics on administration,  instruction, driving, school partnerships, dentistry, geriatric horses, autism and so much more!  The comments were so positive for each an every speaker.  It was an honor to have so many talented folks share their knowledge with us.

TRAV's financial support as an Educational Sponsor allowed planners to expand the offerings.

Thank you to all who donated, including:

  • Markel (Lanyard and Goodie Bag Sponsor)
  • Tidewater Physical Therapy
  • The Curis Group and exhibitors
  • Arbonne
  • Thera-Horse Solutions
  • EQUI-KIDS Volunteer Committee
  • Heroes (from SC)

EQUI-KIDS was honored to have been able to host this conference and happy we were able to "raise a toast" to celebrate our 20th Anniversary and soon-to-be relocation.  Thank you to all who made this possible especially my staff and awesome EQUI-KIDS volunteers!  I hope to see you all in West Virginia in 2010!

News from the Virginia Network of Non-Profit Organizations (VANNO)

Is your organization in need of office furniture or equipment?  How about a vehicle, refrigerator or storage shelves?  You may be eligible to access these items and other surplus property through the Virginia Office of Surplus Property Management.  The Federal Surplus Property Program is available to "donee members" only.  A donee member includes some qualified (tax-exempt) non-profit organizations.  The only cost to your organization is a service and handling fee.  The cost of property is generally 10-35% of its original cost.  A complete list of available property, horse_typing_at_computer.gifincluding some with color pictures and descriptions can be found at http://www.dgs.virginia.gov/surplus/.

The website also has downloadable application forms.  Once your application is approved, most property can be viewed in person at two convenient distribution centers located in Richmond or Wytheville (in southwest Virginia).  To find our if your organization is eligible to become a "donee", submit an application or contact the offices at statesurplus@dgs.virgnia.gov or call 804-236-3662.  Applications and other information are available at http://surplus.dgs.virginia.gov.

 Looking for a Horse?

"I am looking for a home for one of my horses that has been diagnosed as WALK only.  He is a very quiet, laid back 4 year old.  He loves attention and is the biggest pocket horse I have ever known in my 40+ years of horses.  He is used to dogs, 4 wheelers, kids all running around him.  I  used to provide horses for the program in my area before I moved, so I know what kind of horses are needed and he fits the bill.  We just want him to go to a very loving environment and be well taken care of.  If you're interested, please contact me at lesterp@chesterfield.gov or shadycreekstables@yahoo.com."
