As you’ve undoubtedly heard, Hurricane Sandy hit the Coney Island community hard. Families went without power or heat for over a week; cars were destroyed; and many families lost everything—homes, clothing, and all of their belongings. This disruption of their lives is a massive setback for so many, including our scholars and their families.
As the Coney Island community works to rebuild, we are committed to helping our families recover and move forward. In addition to providing a world-class education for our scholars, we will be helping steer families in need to all available resources such as FEMA, and food, water and blanket distributions. But we must do more.
With your heartfelt help we are putting together a fund from which we will distribute money to support those families facing the direst circumstances. Through this effort, we are hoping to raise $50,000, 100% of which we will be directly donated to those families in need. This money will help families buy clothing, replace furniture, and put food on the table while they work to move forward following the storm.

Disasters like Hurricane Sandy devastate communities, leaving a mark long after they are gone. However, the compassion and willingness of you and others to help out those affected, prove why we still have so much to be thankful for, and gives hope that Coney Island, and our most impacted scholars, will come back even stronger than before.
With great gratitude and appreciation for your help,
