Napa Valley POS Product Updates

October 2011

Hi NVPOS Customer,

It's the Fall season and harvest is upon us. The summer tourists have given way to Fall tourists, and hopefully they are lined up at your registers buying wine and merchandise. Each one of these visitors represents an opportunity for future sales. This visit can be the beginning of a long relationship. It would be nice to take advantage of that, right? So how can it be done? It's as simple as getting their email address! It's that easy yet I see a lot of use of POS Generic Customers at visitor centers. Why? I've heard a lot of reasons: It's an inconvenience to ask the customer for their email...people don't like to be bothered for their info...people don't like spam...it takes too long.

I understand that there are appropriate times to use your "Generic Retail" customer and we are working on new features that will enable you to do so much more quickly.  However, the fact is you are leaving money on the table by not capturing customer data. If you have someone standing in front of you buying wines or checking out after enjoying a tasting it's a perfect time to ask if they'd like to join your mailing list. They are already standing right there, handing you their credit card, talking with you. "Hey, would you be interested in signing up for our email list? You can get special discounts, advance notice of releases, invitations to special events..." You get the picture. A little creativity can go a very long way here. Or it might be as simple as training (retraining!) your cashiers to simply ask. These customers have sought you out, come to visit your winery and soak in the whole experience; they want to be connected to you. This concept is the underpinning of our CustomerCentral integration. We want to help you get the most out of your customer contacts and the best way is to avoid the "Generic Retail" customer and capture that information.

New Product Alert: Calling all iPads!

Introducing TotalRecall, our newest eWinery Solutions integration. Have you wished there was a way to use your iPad in the tasting room? With TotalRecall you can interact directly with your customers wherever they may be in your tasting room environment. Simply add items to your cart using your iPad and then complete the order when the customer is checking out. It's a seamless way to add mobility to your tasting room. This works with any mobile device, including laptops, smartphones, and other tablets. Call us for more information.

New Feature Alert: Improved Process for adding Ship To Addresses!

We've streamlined CustomerCentral, significantly reducing the time it takes to add a new ship to address to your POS order. Now available with eWinery Soutions, Vin65, and WineDirect (formerly IBG): Bypass the Web Info tab altogether and add new addresses directly in the Ship To tab. To take advantage of this feature be sure to update to the latest version of CustomerCentral. See product version table below for more info on release dates.

Meet the New Guy

Tom Gorton at NVPOS offices

I'd like to introduce Tom Gorton. He brings to the company a welcome array of skills forged from years as a tasting room manager. He's got many talents, including finance, IT, sales, forklift, you name it, all of which makes him a great asset to our team and to our customers. I thought it might be nice to learn a little about the Tom underneath all those hats.

JT: For you a perfect weekend would include what three things?

TG: My lovely wife Laura, a growler of AVBC Summer Solstice and my ’74 VW Bus (his name is Huey)… camping somewhere.

JT: You are a bicycle enthusiast. What's the coolest thing you've ever done on two wheels?

TG: I doubt everyone else thinks it is as cool as I do, but I absolutely love that I can ride my bike to work. I’ll try and keep that same positive attitude once the rainy season starts!

JT: What are you reading right now?

TG: I just finished To Cork or Not to Cork by George Taber. I want you all to know that I’m an equal-opportunity wine drinker, regardless of closure!

JT: What's the last song you played on your ipod?

TG: House of the Rising Sun by The Animals. It’s been stuck in my head ever since…

JT: You are a longtime RMS user; in Store Ops Manager have you ever run a report and used the "Negate Expression" advanced filter?

TG: Yes I have, but I prefer not to talk about it...

JT: Understood. On a more serious note, what standard RMS feature do you think is underutilized by wineries?

TG: Physical Inventory – cycle counts and physical inventory can be painful, but using the Physical Inventory tool in RMS significantly reduced the amount of time we all spent getting it done, and we could review results before committing.

JT: Okay, one final question relating to my introduction above. Can you, as a familiar user of NVPOS products, tell everyone how easy it is to add the new email that they just captured in the tasting room?

TG: Easy! Just click CustomerCentral, click "New" and type the email address in the box. Enter the other info if you have time, but it's not required. Press OK and continue with the sale, that's it!
