A WORD FROM ELISE FREDERICK, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

For many people welcoming the New Year,  marks an opportunity to have hope for a better tomorrow.  After the challenges of 2008 this may be true for many of us.

Hope for a better tomorrow is exactly what our Mission Doctors bring everyday. The Coda family is preparing for a mission to Uganda, Tim Cavanagh heads to Cameroon, and of course Dick and Loretta Stoughton continue to provide an oasis of care in Zimbabwe.

This new year marks a milestone for Mission Doctors – our 50 year Anniversary.  We will honor these five decades and all our doctors, their families, as well as members of our Mission Doctors Auxiliary.  This auxiliary has made the work of MDA possible, bringing hope for a better tomorrow for patients at mission hospitals and clinics around the world. For more information about the benefit read below under Auxiliary news.

If you would be interested in my own musings on this anniversary, I invite you to my own blog. I will try to share more there as the year moves forward.

What can you do?  Please pray.  Pray for those serving and that more will follow the call to serve.  If you have considered serving yourself, perhaps this is the year to join us for the Retreat / Seminar and find out if this is a possibility for you.  Read more about the Retreat / Seminar below.

Of course, we also need your financial support.  You can donate on-line on our secure web site using a credit card or check. Perhaps a smaller monthly donation would be more manageable this year… what ever you can give, know that your generosity is appreciated and makes a world of difference!

LETTERS FROM THE MISSIONS

Dr. Marcia Smith-Bourain tells about her experience serving short term with her daughter this summer in Guatemala.  She shares with us the local challenges, hopeful changes and practical information about life at Hospitalito.

Dr. Steven Kelly recounts his service in Uganda at Nyakibale Hospital and the importance of the new emergency department.  He shares the story of Moses, a courageous 13 year old admitted to Nyakibale.

 2009 RETREAT/SEMINAR

Its not too Late!  We are still accepting applications for the 2009 Retreat / Seminar March 20-22.  It is open to Catholic doctors and their families considering short term service at a mission hospital or clinic for one to three months.   Please contact our office (info@missiondoctors.org) for more information.

A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER, MSGR. BROUWERS

Brouwers.jpg Mission Doctors founder, Msgr. Anthony Brouwers, wrote  about Mission Doctors and their role in the missionary church “We wish to exemplify the law of charity.  You can't make Christians of people unless they see the law of charity in practice”
