We're Celebrating Our 2008
Grantees
We hope you
are planning to join us on Monday, July 27th to celebrate the organizations that have just completed their 2008 grants. There will be food, there will be
drink, and best of all, there will be a chance to hear about the
accomplishments of these very inspiring organizations. The party starts at 5 PM at the Sustainable Path
Foundation/Philanthropy Northwest office suite. Space is limited, so if you haven't already responded to the
E-vite, contact Nora@sustainablepath.org
to see if there are spots remaining.
Our
2008 grantees are: 2People, Climate Solutions, Port Townsend Marine Science
Center, Reef Environmental Education Foundation, Sightline Institute,
Washington Citizens for Resource Conservation, and Washington Toxics Coalition.
Welcome
Aaron Ferguson!
Sustainable
Path Foundation is delighted to have a summer intern again this year. Aaron Ferguson is a recent graduate
from the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of
Washington. While pursuing his
Master of Public Administration degree Aaron's primary focus was environmental
policy. Aaron will be researching
models of engaged philanthropy and working on a policy analysis for us this
summer. In addition to working at Sustainable Path Foundation, he is busy
planning his upcoming September wedding with Lindy Gibbs. In October the two will head south for 6 months, bicycling and WWOOFing their way around New
Zealand. Don't know what WWOOFing
is?
What's
WWOOFing?
Can
you imagine spending your vacation meeting like-minded people, contributing
much needed help while learning new skills? You might consider WWOOFing. WWOOF stands for World Wide
Opportunities on Organic Farms. It
is an international network that serves to link folks who would like to
experience life on an organic farm with organic farmers in need of
assistance. In exchange for an
agreed-upon number of volunteer work hours, the farmer provides meals, accommodation,
and an opportunity to learn practical, organic farming techniques. Have you had experience with WWOOFing?
We'd like to hear your story, email us at info@sustainablepath.org.
Moontown
Foundation Takes a Systems Approach
The Moontown Foundation, a
Seattle-based non-profit organization, received a small discretionary
grant from Sustainable Path Foundation to help foster collaborative
partnerships with their SWITCH Project. The SWITCH Project is a citywide initiative utilizing direct
citizen action and outreach, environmental education and training to prepare
disadvantaged individuals for careers in the emerging green economy, as well
as, help the region meet its greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Moontown Foundation is an excellent
example of an organization taking a systems approach to ending environmental,
social and economic injustice.
Idea
Club - Date Change This Month Only
Idea Club meets the 4th Monday of each month, as an informal monthly
discussion group on science and sustainability issues that are relevant and
relate to the activities of Sustainable Path Foundation. It is open to all, and
we usually have a mix of expertise. All that is needed to attend is enthusiasm
for good conversation. This month
Idea Club met a week early, Monday, July 20th. The topic: A Culture of Innovation - How does innovation happen? Is it
simply random or can a formal process to support creativity be constructed?
What would such a culture look like? Mark you calendar for the next Idea Club
August 24th, and remember to check our website for
information about the topic and date of Idea Club each month.
