2010 Request For Proposals
Is Now Available
The Sustainable Path Grants Committee members met last week for
the first meeting of the 2010 grants cycle. Sustainable Path is pleased to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for 2010
Grant Funding. Please check our website for the details of the RFP.
Our Annual Fundraising
Drive Is In Full Swing
Our grants are made possible by generous donors and partners
like you. In 2009, Sustainable Path was able to award $130,000 in grants to
local organizations promoting a sustainable future, an increase of 24% over
2008. Sustainable
Path Foundation is a group philanthropy: our donors and partners pool their
skills and financial resources to make a powerful impact through collective
giving. As such we cannot exist without the participation and generosity of our
volunteers and donors. Please see our website
for more information on how you can support our work with a donation. Thanks in advanced to all of you who
choose to work towards a world that is healthy and sustainable by supporting
Sustainable Path Foundation.
Washington Toxics
Coalition Announces Results From Its “Earliest Exposures” Study
Washington Toxics
Coalition has just announced the results from its study that monitored the
presence of various environmental toxins in pregnant women. Called "Earliest
Exposures," the project was funded in part by a grant from Sustainable
Path Foundation. We are proud to
have sponsored WTC for a number of years and congratulate the organization for
its quality reports, integrity and professionalism. In case you missed it, you can also read about the results of their study, "Puget
Sound Down the Drain: How Everyday Products are Polluting Puget Sound," that
WTC announced in late September.
Welcome New Sustainable
Path Board Members
We wish to welcome three new board members! The bios of Carol Barone, Anson Fatland and Jennifer Slack can be viewed on our website.
Thank you!
A huge thank-you to departing board members Michelle Chow and
Tim Dickenson.
Michelle served a two-year term on the board, serving on the Grants
Committee, as our webmaster, and helping with our rebranding. Michelle departed
in September for a year-long world adventure; last we heard she was somewhere in
Spain. We thank her for all her
contributions and wish her a fabulous trip!
Tim has been on the board since we started in 2003. He served as co-chair of the board,
co-chair of the Engagement Committee, and helped with governance, by-laws, and
strategic planning. We are glad Tim
will continue to work with Sustainable Path as co-chair of the Engagement Committee.
Seattle Has A River???
A number of US rivers are famous for the cities through
which they flow. Not so the
Duwamish River. In fact, a lot of
Seattleites do not even know that the Duwamish exists. In late September several donors of Sustainable Path were
privileged to kayak on a portion of the river with Thea Levkovitz and Cari
Simson of the Duwamish River Cleanup Coalition. They experienced the river firsthand
and learned about ongoing efforts to clean up and restore this heavily polluted
waterway. Adam Sedgley and Matt Mega from the Seattle Audubon Society, one of
our 2009 grant recipients, accompanied the group of intrepid paddlers. The kayaks and guides were supplied by Alki Kayak Tours. Thanks to everyone who made this an enjoyable and
informative experience.
Consumption On Display
For a different perspective on consumerism, check
out the current Chris Jordan photography exhibit, Running the Numbers, now until January 3, 2010 at the Pacific Science Center. This is a fascinating exhibit that,
as advertised, may indeed change the way you view the world.
