It Was A Swell Party!
Despite the heat and traffic,
nearly 45 friends of Sustainable Path gathered on July 27th to
celebrate the successes of our 2008 grant recipients (our grant year ends in June). Representatives of each organization
were on hand to enlighten us about the projects that received funding from
Sustainable Path last year. Many
thanks and congratulations to all of you: Arvia Morris (speaking for Phil Mitchell), 2People;
Gregg Small, Climate
Solutions; Anne Murphy, Port
Townsend Marine Science Center; Christy Pattengill-Semmens, Reef
Environmental Education Foundation; Alan Durning, Sightline
Institute; Suellen Mele, Washington
Citizens for Resource Conservation; and Erika Schreder,
Washington Toxics Coalition. Please take some time to
check out their websites.
Their
accomplishments are truly impressive and inspiring.

Volunteer Opportunities at
Sustainable Path Foundation
Committee meetings for the
next (2010) grant cycle will commence in September/October. Serving on the Grants Committee is an excellent way to
support Sustainable Path's mission, learn about various local nonprofit organization,
and meet some terrific, smart, enthusiastic people.
Here are what two members of
the 2009 committee had to say about the experience:
"I have truly enjoyed serving on the Grants Committee,
learning about what my fellow committee members and local nonprofit
organizations are doing for our environment and health. The most inspirational
part of the committee work is meeting great people doing great work, especially
when we make site visits." -Kyoko Maruyama
"Serving on
the Grants Committee has been fascinating - I've enjoyed learning about all the
amazing work that is going on in the Pacific Northwest and also enjoyed
listening to the all the viewpoints represented on the committee as we
work our way toward consensus on which projects to fund." -Kate Loughney
We are also seeking
nominations for our Board of Directors.
Two-year board terms begin with an election in November.
Both of these volunteer
opportunities require a financial commitment. If you are interested in learning more about either, please
contact Nora at 206-443-8464.
‘Tis the
Season
Currently fresh
produce is at its peak in our Puget Sound region. Shopping at a farmers' market is a wonderful way to take advantage of this healthful bounty
and support sustainable local agriculture. For an
even healthier experience consider walking, riding your bicycle or taking the
bus to the farmers' market in your area. Click here for
information about markets in 12 western Washington counties.
