Idea Club 2/23 to discuss the AAAS Conference...
The next Idea Club (an informal monthly discussion group) will discuss news from the annual
meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Chicago which had as its
theme "Our Planet and Its Life - Origins and Futures." Did you attend the conference and want to digest it with others? Maybe you didn't attend the conference but are interested in exploring the theme a bit more? Join us on February 23 at 5 PM for a debrief on the conference, including topics related to energy usage and climate change, sustainability science, the Earth Charter, and the role of science
policy in President Obama's administration. For more information about Idea Club or to participate in an online discussion about this and other topics, visit the Idea Club Blog. Please RSVP if you plan on joining us.
There are many great ideas out there…
Earlier this month, we received many thoughtful Letters of Inquiry in response to the Sustainable Path Foundation 2009 RFP for grant funding. Our volunteereviewedr Grants Committee has reviewed the applications (ten more than last year) and looks forward to
seeing full proposals from those selected to move forward in the process. There are many worthy projects being done in the Puget Sound region, ranging from using citizen scientists as data collectors, to tackling climate change from numerous angles, and addressing resource conservation in creative and efficient ways. Though the
final selection of grant recipients will be difficult, the Foundation is committed to maintaining our grantmaking budget of $105,000. This is especially important in these tough economic times. Our goal is to leverage every dollar granted to
make the biggest impact possible.
Now, more than ever, your dollars will make a difference…
Thank you to our generous donors who dig deep even in
tough times. With your donation, you are choosing to support the promotion of sustainability and health in our region. It is imperative that wise decisions are made
now to move our region, our country, and our world toward a sustainable
future. Resources must be used wisely
and Sustainable Path Foundation adds value to your donation dollars by making sure funds are directed
where they are needed most and can create the most change.
We are committed to maintaining our grant program levels in 2009 and expanding
our programs in future. We need
your help to meet our goals. Please consider donating to Sustainable Path
Foundation. If you have questions or
would like to learn more about the programs we support, check out our website
or email us at info@sustainablepath.org. One of our volunteers would
love to tell you more about our work.
Keep informed...
Last week's
seminar “Energy and water in the west: priorities for a healthy Washington” kicked off
our 2009 series “Seeking solutions: linking our health, our environment,
our economy, our communities." We had good attendance for the
informative talks by Michael Hightower and Joan Crooks on February 11.
They both presented a hopeful message that there are solutions to the very
critical resource issues we are facing. Hopefully the energy they created
in the room will translate into action. Hightower was interviewed for the Sustainability Segment of Mind Over Matters on KEXP, 90.3
FM. To hear the interview, by Diane Horn go to http://www.kexp.org/streamarchive/streamarchive.asp and enter 7 AM Saturday, February 14, under listen by time.
