A Call to Service
Summer is Over, Now its Cleanup Time!
It has been a beautiful summer around the lagoon. Sunsets, hikes, bike rides, swimming... and unfortunately a lot of trash to show for it. Join with over 8,000 volunteers throughout the County on Saturday, September 19 for Coastal Cleanup Day! Our Conservancy team will meet at MiraCosta College on Manchester Ave, just east of Interstate 5, from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon. We'll branch out to several locations around the lagoon to harvest butts, wrappers, cans, bottles, bags, and asorted other trash. We'll even venture into the Lagoon to remove some invasive pest plants. Fun for the whole family! Send a message to workparties@SanElijo.org for more information and to signup.
A happy crew from a previous Coastal Cleanup Day,
posing with their trash treasure
Many thanks to the crew of 10 volunteers who gathered in August to cleanup the tidal basin next to Pacific Coast Highway at the south end of the Lagoon. The place has never looked better! Pam and Steve Fitch once again directed the work party, and a fun time was had by all.

Ride Found. Lost?
Staff scientist Barry Lindgren recovered this surfboard in the Conservancy's dune strand restoration area this past week. It may have flown in from the roof of a passing Woody or Volkswagen, or it may have been dumped. Dude, can you help us track down the rightful owner? The tail is dinged. If our search efforts are unsuccessful, then look for this board at our Birds of a Feather Silent Auction on the 26th!
Budding Naturalists, This is your Opportunity!

Opportunity for Board Service
The Conservancy Board of Directors is looking for a few good people.
Our mission is to preserve, protect, and enhance the
San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve, its watershed and related ecosystems. The
services of our board members are invaluable and essential to furthering this
mission and maintaining the health of the lagoon and its environs. Your
commitment of time, thought and economic resources will make a significant
difference to ensure SELC’s continued success. On the average, SELC directors contribute
an estimated five to eight hours per month.
This service can be rewarding and an important element of
your life’s work. There are many opportunities for personal growth as a SELC
director and you also can expect to enjoy the company and friendship of
like minded people with whom you would be serving.
Please contact Nominating Committee Chair, Jim McCall, to discuss in further detail. He can be reached at 858.755.3535
