Question of the month

"How much money should we request in our grant proposal?"

grant resources pic.jpgSome foundation websites list recent grants; the organizations they funded and amounts contributed. If they have no website, try to find a copy of their annual report or Form 990. Your grant writer can obtain this information for you. Check for non-profits on the list that are similar to yours to get an idea of the funder's willingness to invest in your mission.

Identify measurable needs that best match the interests of the funder. It is best not to pick an arbitrary amount based on an average of their awards. Make it clear why you need this amount of money. The amount you arrive at should be easily tracked so you can demonstrate favorable outcome in your follow-up report to the funder.

Quote of the month

"The man who will use his skill and constructive imagination to see how much he can give for a dollar, instead of how little he can give for a dollar, is bound to succeed." Henry Ford
