WAR is proud to introduce the 2009-2010 Alan & Susan Fuirst Women At Risk Breast Surgery Fellow, Francisco Espinel, MD.  Each year, WAR sponsors a fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center which trains one young surgeon in the unique clinical and psychological aspects of breast surgery and educates him or her on new and innovative treatments.  This fellowship is generously underwritten by Alan & Susan Fuirst.

Join Women At Risk at our Laurie Bass Sklaver Annual Symposium as we present an in-depth exploration of how the trend towards individualized care in the medical community affects breast cancer treatment and risk prediction and management.

Featuring presentations by distinguished medical professionals, Linda T. Vahdat, MD, Donna Russo, and Ronald Crystal, MD. Moderated by Kathie-Ann Joseph, MD, MPH.  Q & A will follow the presentations.

WAR Supporter Kelley Mondesire is a New York state and Florida state board certified practitioner of traditional chinese medicine and certified provider of Active Release Techniques (ART).  One of her specialties is Integrative Support Therapies for cancer patients, and she is offering a 20% discount on all Acupuncture treatments for WAR breast cancer patients.  If you are a breast cancer patient or survivor at Columbia University Medical Center who has used WAR's services and would like to take advantage of this discount and make an appointment, visit Kelley's website at


The Breast Cancer Emergency Aid Foundation helps breast cancer patients in need by providing direct financial assistance for non-medical expenses.  This year, the foundation partnered with Women At Risk to identify patients at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center who would benefit from this kind of aid.  WAR's Patient Navigator, Nancy Singleton, acted as a liasion to identify patients, and many patients were helped this year.  To find out more about this program, visit
