Modern Day Sharecropping -  Testimonial!

Sharecroppers1_sm.jpgJill in Marietta, Georgia has become one of our biggest advocates. She contacted us in February and less than a month later, she had her Micro-Bins built and active. Jill leases her land to two horse owners so she composts the manure and bedding and then uses the finished compost in her garden, which is being used for sharecropping. An idea that began a very long time ago, Jill and her fellow "sharecroppers" are reaping the benefits from the compost produced by the O2Compost system. Heat Recovery

Lemco_MicroBin-Newsletter.jpgLaura Lemco, who has been operating her octagonal O2Compost Micro-Bin system since 2008, recently sent us this email:

"People used to joke with me that I should use the heat generated by that huge compost pile to heat my house. But why couldn't a bin heat a greenhouse?"

"Seeing is Believing" Tour a Success!

On June 18 and 19, O2Compost held the first "Seeing is Believing" Tour hosting guests from New York, Texas, Colorado and Washington State. All participants arrived in Redmond, WA (located about 30 miles from Seattle) on Thursday, June 18, and joined Peter Moon for a short workshop on aerated composting, refreshments, and an orientation as to what was scheduled for the following day. The group reconvened the next morning for the tour. They visited 11 sites in the Redmond-Snohomish area that are utilizing the O2Compost System. These sites included a city park, three landscaping businesses, six horse farms, and an organic vegetable farm. All sites vary slightly in their system design and in the materials that they compost, but the tour proved to all involved that aerated static pile composting is the most effective, efficient and economical way to turn organic waste into high-quality finished product.

Our guests enjoyed a few side trips along the way to scenic Snoqualmie Falls, lunch on the Snohomish River, wine tasting in Woodinville (Western Washington's wine country), and dinner on Lake Washington. All involved felt the tour was informative and fun. Shortly after returning home to New York, one of our guests (Peter) send this note:

"I enjoyed the chance the meet the O2Compost people who previously were just telephone voices. The opportunity to climb in and around composting facilities really helped give reality to the pictures and drawings. This tour of operating facilities provided just what I needed to firm up my plans and give me the confidence to move forward. The excavator will be working on my system within the week!"

We hope that you can join us for the next "Seeing is Believing" Tour on October 1st and 2nd. For more information and to register, please email Kirsten@o2compost.com

Webinar Available Online!

If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

Our very first Webinar titled "An Introduction to Horse Manure Composting" was well attended but not without its troubles. The sound wasn't perfect and although we thought it was being recorded, it turns out that it wasn't. I guess that's what a "newbie" to the world of technology can expect.

Two weeks later, we conducted a second version of the same Webinar and again had some sound issues. The Webinar has now been successfuly recorded and has been posted on our website. Click here to view the Webinar link.

O2Compost's next webinar:  Thursday, July 16 @ 4:00pm (pacific)
