Dear John,
There is so much great energy around Tricycle Gardens and Urban Agriculture, it is hard to know where to begin! But here goes:
• Save the date for the First Annual Harvest Dinner, Saturday October 3rd, 6-10pm at the Robinson Theatre in Church Hill. There is so much to celebrate as we come together and acknowledge the hard work of our community members that have helped to bring gardens into the landscape of Richmond, and the future of urban greening, community gardens, and healthy neighborhoods. Tickets are $50. Please join us in reaching our goal of raising $25,000! Or more! More info or to RSVP please contact Cynthia Hannan at 804-304-7600 or dinner@tricyclegardens.org. Interested in corporate sponsorship? Contact Rob Jones at 804-231-7767 or rob@tricyclegardens.org! EAT DRINK & BE MERRY WITH US! YES!
• We were part of the very successful "Urban Tonic" symposium at Lewis
Ginter Botanical Garden. There is broad agreement that the time has
come for community gardens to become a part of what makes Richmond a
great city. This means that we ALL need to be a part of bringing
greening to the city! And we can all be a part of it! Ready to get down and dirty with us? Email learn@tricyclegardens.org or call Lisa Taranto at 804-231-7767.
• There is a NEW community garden in the works for the Chimborazo Playground Park in Church Hill. (between 29th & 31st, south of E.Broad St.) The first phase (16 plots) is in partnership with KaBoom! Playgrounds, Home Depot, and The City of Richmond Rec. & Parks Dept. Community workdays are scheduled for Thursday September 3rd and Thursday September 10th. Put on those work boots and work gloves and come on out for the afternoon! Email chimbo@tricyclegardens.org or call Jennifer Dodge at 804.644.7756 for more info!
• There is a bill hitting the floor of Congress called "The Community Gardening Act of 2009" (HR 3225). Both Rep.Jim Moran and Rep.Bobby Scott of Virginia have become co-sponsors. Find out who your Congressional representative is HERE>> and give them a call to let them know that you would like to see them become co-sponsors of this important piece of legislation. You can read more about it HERE>>.
• Join us at Whole Foods (11173 West Broad Street) for Fridays in August, for 5 for 5! 5 great wines paired with 5 great dishes, for $5, from 5-7pm. (That's a lot of 5's!) Proceeds go to US! Yes, eat and drink and support Tricycle Gardens at the same time!
Tricycle Gardens is changing the way we eat, one garden at a time!
Thanks for your continued support,
The Tricycle Gardens Crew
