Resources for Elementary School

  • Contributed by Stephen O’Connor, Place Value to the Billions is an overview of digits, place, place value, and periods where students can practice determining the value of a digit in a place. Conversions between standard, expanded, and word forms. Multimedia from this collection can be embedded or used for review. Student respond with 9x12 dry erase boards.
  • Rated 5 stars, Geometry Tools was contributed by MathMastery Inc. This helpful collection of videos show students how to use a protractor and compass.
  • Contributed by CityTownInfo, Being an Elementary School Teacher: Real-World Tips & Stories from Working Teachers is a free e-book providing insights into the pros and cons of being an elementary educator, across a variety of elementary teaching professions.

Resources for Middle School

  • Check out this full course in Algebra, written by and featuring Sal Khan, where each unit consists of a number of 10-15 minute videos that can be consumed in one sitting. It is more advanced than Sal’s Algebra I course and is divided into 12 units. The videos concentrate on solving problems taken from an Open Source textbook. Sal’s manner is approachable, interesting, and fun and is always pedagogically on-target.
  • Basketball anyone? Check out Basketball IQ from Mathalicious.com. Is a three-pointer really a better shot than a two-pointer? In this experiment, we’ll hit the court to explore the relationship between the shooting distance and the percent of shots made.
Resources for High School
  • Students, do you love math but find yourself bored in math class? This is the course for you! Combinatorics – The Fine Art of Counting is a fascinating branch of mathematics that applies to problems ranging from card games to quantum physics to the internet. The only pre-requisite is basic algebra. A mathematically agile mind will be helpful.
  • Mathematics, Grades 10-12, Basics is the first chapter of the FHSST (Free High School Science Texts) Mathematics textbook. The project was initiated by young South African scientists, and now brings together scientists from around the world who are willing to contribute to the writing of the books.
  • Contributed by Issac Newton, Interactive Math Websites is a list sorted by subject and individual lessons that include web pages for students to obtain extra practice. Rated “Exemplary” by the Curriki rating system.

Sincerely,
The Curriki Team
