Willkommen! ¡Bienvenido! Youkoso!
As our fall semester students wrap up their exchanges in the U.S., a new group of students is arriving for the 2017 spring semester. NWSE would like to welcome all new students as they begin their spring term exchange adventure, learning, personal growth, and friendship. Stay tuned for a welcome letter from our executive director on ways you might get involved with the NWSE community and settle in smoothly to your new life here in the U.S.!

To celebrate our 30th year of international exchange program operations, we are reaching out to former students and host families and asking them to share with us where they are now and how their NWSE exchange experiences changed their lives.

We recently heard from Mianu from Japan, an NWSE academic year student in 2014-15 (see below). If you're part of our alumni community, share your story with on our Facebook page or by e-mailing us at nwse@nwse.com.

I just wanted to share that my exchange year significantly changed my life thanks to an amazing host family and the greatest community where I stayed. I learned during my exchange year that I am not alone, and there are people who support me and encourage me even though they are not my blood-related family. From that experience, I started to think that I want to contribute to society and be someone who can support and encourage people around the world. That is why I entered George Washington University in Washington, D.C. as a freshman this year! I'm in the School of Business and will probably concentrate in international business and international affairs. I am still connected to my host family and I visited them during my winter break.

Put together a fun, creative, and/or informative video about your exchange year and share your stories and impressions with the NWSE community—and the world! Collect and edit videos and pictures of your exchange year and submit them to NWSE by mid-May. Contest rules will be posted in the next newsletter. In the meantime, enjoy filming the memorable moments of how you are "(Ex)changing Your World" here in America during our 30th Anniversary Celebration! To view past students' videos, go to the NWSE YouTube channel.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is observed every year on the third Monday of January. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was an advocate of nonviolent activism and civil disobedience during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Many choose to use this holiday to do volunteer work in their communities.
We always welcome your program questions and suggestions by emailing nwse@nwse.com or calling our office at 206 527 0917. If included in our newsletter, all submitted questions and suggestions will be published anonymously.
