Your First Day of School in the U.S.!

Many of you have already started school in different parts of the country. Getting ready for that first day - or even the first month - of school will likely be exciting and a bit stressful for most students. To alleviate the stress, we recommend that you do two things: (1) don't worry, and (2) ask questions. Your host family, school counselor, teachers, local NWSE Area Coordinator, the NWSE Seattle office, and your new American friends are all here to help you with any question or concern you have about school. Don't worry - just ask!

Congratulations on reaching such a tremendous milestone, Miriam! The NWSE staff, as well as all your students and host families, are all incredibly grateful and fortunate for your years of tireless dedication to the global exchange community.

Holidays and Cultural Events

September 22, 2016, marks the beginning of the "fall season" with the Fall Equinox. On that day, the sun will rise exactly in the east and set exactly in the west, and day and night will be the same length. After that, daytime will get shorter and shorter in the Northern Hemisphere until the Winter Solstice in December. Examples of some fall activities in the U.S. include exploring corn mazes and pumpkin patches, harvesting farm produce, watching American football games, celebrating Halloween and Thanksgiving, and drinking hot apple cider or pumpkin spice lattes.

We always welcome your program questions and suggestions. Please email us at or call our office at 206 527 0917. Questions we include in our newsletter will be published anonymously.
