The Smiles Foundation News - March 2010

Smiles Logo
Dear Friends

Well - what a month this has been!
February 2010 will not be forgotten, possibly ever.

Just over 5,000 miles driven since 1st of the month with the Tileagd Choir travelling across 10 of the south-eastern States of America. Lots of Fuel Stops, Food Stops and Fellowship Stops as we visited friends, old and new in so many wonderfully supportive Churches

Mar10Choir.jpgThe Choir are doing amazingly well, endearing hearts every where we go but more importantly, testifying wonderfully to how God has blessed the Tileagd Community - The School, The Church and of course The People.

Just one more week to go before we'll be heading back to the airport for the long journey home from Jacksonville FL to Atlanta GA .... Onto Amsterdam Holland and to Budapest Hungary. There the final bus ride to Tileagd and Cihei. Continue to pray for safety and blessings and if you are in Sebring or Jacksonville, Florida - try to see us on our final concerts.

Mission CentreS.JPGIt's been an amazing month. Apart from all the Concerts of Praise and Testimony to God's Goodness and the tremendous support for the work of Smiles, many Churches and individuals have been moved to make a Mission Trip to Romania. As at February 28th, bookings and reservations for Mission Trips this year currently stands at 291. We believe we could have another bumper year with well over 300 visitors to the Smiles Mission Centre in Cihei.

The Choir Tour has had a great impact on many people, not least the Choir themselves as they see God's family offering such wonderful hospitality and love around the World. One of our stops in Fairfield, near Cincinnati Ohio - had a lovely impact on Camille and Alex Dainton. Their mother, Holly sent this little encouragement to us:

Mar10Hat.jpg"I just wanted to say thank you for the impact you have had in these
2 short days on our children, Camille and Alex.  Last night after the concert when we got home, Camille gave Mike $20 that she had received for her birthday and told him to "make sure it got to the right place for Romania."  Alex, as you can see by the attached picture, can barely stand to part from his new Smiles hat.  As I have shared already, we have talked of making the trip to Romania when Camille and Alex get a little bit older.  Since being there in 2004, Romania has remained near and dear to Mike's heart.  Thank you also for coming to my school to perform.  I am excited to see what doors the performance may open up for future visits!  Blessings on you and your families as you continue your journey.  And thanks again for touching the hearts of my kids!"

Also in Ohio, actually the first time the Choir had performed in the state, gave the opportunity for us to visit Madison Christian Church in Groveport. Betty Davidson coordinated much of our visit and loved meeting the Choir after so many years of encouraging the Church to support Smiles. Don't miss her report on the visit and some of her pictures.

Also, through-out the Tour, American DA Greg Willis has been travelling and hasn't resigned yet!

Be sure to catch Greg's report for the month and get involved with all he has planned for America.

During our absence, Romania and United Kingdom have been as busy as usual.

Our Family Crisis Centre and Emergency Housing Unit MinaMar10.jpgwere both once again, in great demand this past month - stretching resources to the limits. Firstly, a nine month pregnant 20 year old was desperate for help to be able to keep her baby and the Family Crisis Centre was able to step in.

A few days ago Mina was urgently taken to hospital thinking the time had arrived! But no, not yet and after a short stay, Mina was back at Cihei waiting for God's miracle to come. Mina is in good spirit and so thankful to God for His provision of a safe and secure place for her and also her soon to be born child. Update next month on the baby!

We also had another domestic abuse case for the Emergency Housing Unit but we are so thankful to be always able to help these desperate mothers and children who need protection, support and God's Love. Our resources in both programs are really stretched currently. If you can help with a special gift this month, please do so now.   Click to SUPPORT

In addition there has a busy start to the year with our work in Salard. Smiles 100 Love Club Manager, Adi Matis, shares some news from Salard.

Mar10MissionTrip.jpg
While some of us are pounding the Motorways of the UK in March, others will be busy on other projects, especially as Mission Trips start in earnest in Romania. A team of more than 30 will be at the Cihei Centre in March, and further teams of 30+ again in April and May. Some of our summer Trips are already full, but there is space during the summer and later in the year. If you have any interest and thoughts about making a Mission Trip to Romania - you won't do better than with Smiles.

Find out now how easy it can be to make that ‘life-changing' trip.

Farm.jpgThis past month we have also been incredibly busy with details related to the proposed FARM purchase. There is a great deal of work involved as we move ahead in faith believing ‘God will provide for this God Sized task'.

After 60 days of launching the Challenge - many have responded wanting to support, which is very encouraging. Today, donated, loaned or pledged totals £130,286 / $201,943.  Virtually 50%

This is amazing and we thank-you for your support thus far. Now we have 30 days to raise the balance of what is needed for the purchase instalment due March 31st.

We need a further £137,257 / $212,750 in these next 30 days.

Please prayerfully consider if you can help with a donation to the Farm, or a Loan which can be either Interest Free or with 5% interest paid per annum. This will enable us to fulfil our commitment of taking Management Control of the Farm on April 1st!!  WOW - that's only 32 days away.

Your support of the Farm, whether donation or loan, will truly help this new HARVEST project to produce Jobs, Social Support and a Financial Harvest - each and every year through the Smiles Small Enterprise Programme.

We believe God will do it through His people. Please Help and Be Blessed.

We are also sure you'll be blessed reading Maria's Report from Romania this month.

In closing, a story that shocked us this month and left us feeling somewhat frustrated.

The BBC News website reported earlier in February a story of a UK Charity responding to the plight of 13 lions from the Zoo in Oradea, Romania. The very city where Smiles is based and endeavours to meet the needs of 1,300 people every day. We were shocked that £130,000 / $201,500 was raised to have the lions transferred from Romania to England, even though the condition of the lions was such, it couldn't be guaranteed all would survive. Now I have to say, I love lions - they are one of my favourite wild animals, but I love people a whole lot more.

Mar10Family.jpgKnowing the desperate needs of so many in the Smiles Family Care project, I would have to be thinking to support one of them ahead of one of my favourite wild animals - the lion.

The cost of hopefully saving 13 lions in Romania - £130,000 / $201,500 - would cover the cost of 200 Families within our Family Care Project for 1 full year.

Let's show how much we care for a Family by sponsoring one today for Food, Clothes, Medical help and Social Support. Starts at just £20 / $30 a month through the Smiles 200 Hope Club.

We know the lion is beautiful, but our families are even more so.
Let's give them a chance to prove it!

With sincere thanks for all you do to help Smiles and others.

God Bless You
