Winter is truly glorious. The leaves have fallen and all of the views you enjoyed in the spring, summer and fall have opened into vistas beyond your wildest imagination – views you will never see except in winter. If you haven’t experienced our cooler months, you have missed some of the real treats of Blue Ridge and the surrounding mountains.

In addition to the unbeatable panoramic scenery opened up by the absence of leaves, winter is the ideal time for most of the many outdoor activities available, like hiking, mountain and tour biking, trail riding on horseback, lake, stream and river fishing, photography, general exploring, antique hunting, and arts and crafts shopping. Hunters have a wide choice of game, and fishermen agree that winter is one of the best times to try your luck.

Winter In The Mountains Sometimes we do get snow up here in the winter. We actually had snow the first week of December this year! Some areas like my cabin received 3‐4” other areas got a “dusting”. The whole time the roads were clear, and similar to driving in a rain. Don’t let the fear of driving in snow prevent you from experiencing the mountains in the winter. Snow makes everything up here even better! What is there to do in Blue Ridge in the winter? Plenty! Arts and Theater Shopping and Dining Spas Hiking, exploring, driving tours, fishing, hunting, mountain biking, atv riding, horseback riding, and also discovering waterfalls and mountians in our forests, parks and wilderness areas. One Of Our Favorite Things. . . Brasstown Bald is the highest elevation in Georgia at 4,784 feet. We regularly travel up to Brasstown Bald, just to see the sunset, something you will want to see again and again. My youngest boys and I have been up to the top of Brasstown Bald at least 12 times so far this year (I bet we will still go again soon). On a clear day, you can see Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee! The weather does not always cooperate though, several times we sat in the car and watched the sunset with the heater on! The most stunning sunsets will be after a cold front blows through and the skies are clear. The observation tower is open year‐round, but the visitor center closes for the winter.
