Christmas Basket Blessing Project

This year Guatemalan Harvest will hold our first Christmas Blessing Basket Project.  The selection of beneficiaries will be made by our affiliate in Guatemala - Bethel Evangelical Church, of San Juan La Laguna.  The criteria for selection will be based on families that are in the greatest need in their community.  Please click here to learn more about this project.

Literacy Advancement 

Something that we feel very passionate about is literacy advancement.  In Guatemala, over 90% of schools lack textbooks and basic library books.  Most Guatemalan school children graduate without the skills needed to get mid-level jobs and are therefore condemned to a life of poverty and discrimination.  Being illiterate also means that one can not read the bible and learn the word of God through scripture.

Guatmalan Harvest is praying for guidance in this area, and for the path to be shown where we can help.  We have seen first hand elementary schools in Guatemala with NO books and NO bookshelves.  How can that be?  Well, when basic survival needs are not being met, then it is not hard to see why books are an exceptiion. 

In 2008, with the help of "Mayan Families", we were able to donate 121 high quality books to an elementary school in need.  You can see the pictures here. 

In 2010, we are looking to have another project related to the cause.  We are open to ideas about this future project.  Please contact us with your thoughts or suggestions.
