A Month of Home Dedications

IMG_2287.JPGIt was six months ago when construction began on four homes in Cedar Creek.  Over 200 volunteers came out that day to assist with this momentous occasion.  Momentous in the fact that these homes are the first in our new neighborhood.

These four homes were all dedicated in June and now have deserving, hard-working families living in them.  Words cannot encompass the emotions displayed at these dedications. All you have to do it look at the smiling faces to see the joy of those moments!

100_1170.JPGIn addition to the homes in Cedar Creek, another family's home was dedicated in Conroe during June. Xavier, Robin and their children were so excited about their new home that they decided to stay there the night of the closing even though they had no furniture moved in yet!

Two homes are currently under construction, so there are more dedications yet to come this year!  Watch for those dates to be announced in early fall.

We are always looking for more sponsors to help us build more homes.  If you, your church, or your workplace are interested in joining forces with Habitat, please contact us to ask about how you can sponsor a home!

Thank you to the sponsors/partners who put the smiles on all of these faces!

Share your stories of volunteers and supporters with Habitat World

The success of Habitat for Humanity is firmly in the hands of its volunteers and supporters — the hands that wield the hammers, write advocacy letters and e-mails, make donations, and welcome future homeowners. In the December 2009 issue of Habitat World, we will celebrate the many ways that so many people make Habitat happen around the globe.

Tell about someone you know who always goes the extra mile on the build site, someone who always has the most innovative ideas for fundraising and awareness-building, someone who forges lasting relationships within the Habitat family. Our affiliate and its star volunteers just might appear in in the pages of Habitat World!

E-mail your volunteer stories to habitatworld@habitat.org or write to managing editor Shala Carlson, Habitat World, 270 Peachtree St. NW, Suite 1300, Atlanta, GA, 30303

"Your Mission Is Not In A Recession"

This quote has never been more appropriate than right now!

In June, HFHMC dedicated the 60th home since the affiliate began in 1989. That is ten homes completed in only the past 13 months...and we cannot afford to slow our pace with 16 families still on the waiting list and many more calling for services daily!

Now, in this time of our country's recession, more families need Habitat's help.  Which means Habitat needs your help!

Donate today to help those hardworking people who are in great need of simple, decent, affordable housing!

Habitat for Humanity Earns 4-Star Rating for Fiscal Management

Once again, Habitat for Humanity International has been given a four-star rating for sound fiscal management by Charity Navigator, an independent charity evaluator.

Approximately 5,000 organizations examined annually by Charity Navigator are evaluated on how responsibly they function and how well they can sustain programs over time. The four-star rating — the highest possible — indicates that Habitat consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way.

“We are proud to receive this four-star rating,” says Mark Crozet, Habitat International’s senior vice president for development. “Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to being good stewards of our resources and to helping more families. We are always mindful of the responsibility we have for the resources entrusted to us.”

On average, Habitat serves a low-income family somewhere around the world every 10 minutes through new house construction, major house rehabilitation and house repairs.
