 DON'T FORGET...

1. Mosquito repellent
 - they are out in force at present.

2. Some warm clothes. Canberra can get uber cold.

 SCHWALBE FORECAST

LONG RANGE WEATHER FORECAST SUGGESTS NO RAIN! So the word from Schwalbe is Ron’s leading out at the front with Ralph keeping things tidy at the rear. If you need tubes, tyre levers, sealant or tape – talk to the crew at Bike Culture Bike Workshop at the Mont, as they will be able to help you out.  Don’t forget to warm the legs up on Friday night on the rollers – if you're quick you may end up with some slick Schwalbe Stelvio’s for out on the road!

 DAY LICENSE REFUNDS

(for MTBA members) If you paid for a Day License as part of your event entry process, yet are (or will be) on race day the holder of a valid/current MTBA license, you will be entitled to a refund of the Day License fee ($15). In order to make this process a smooth one, we need to get an indication of how many riders will be claiming this refund. Riders also need to present their valid/current MTBA License at Race Rego (See our refund policy)

 BRING OUT YOUR PEDALS

Pedals_180_2px.jpg

We've got a burning need for your dead or dying SPD pedals. The first 10 pairs to arrive at Race Rego will earn the owners a gift for their effort. It will all make sense during the presentations.

 PANCAKES WINNER

Team Six Pack have so impressed with their pancake inspired lyrics the the Flintstones song that they have been awarded a sponsorship for the Mont 24 Hour. That's free pancakes for Team Flap Jack all weekend (yes they also changed their name). Well done girls, and let's hope the extra sustenance sees you on the podium.

 JOIN THE CREW

We'd like your help to deliver the Mont. Become part of the Mont 24 Hour Race Crew and discover a great way to experience the event and support your mates or loved ones while they wear their 'race face'. If you have the time and energy we have the right job for you. There's a wide range of things to help out with like rego, timing, marshalling etc. and we'll look after you too. You'll even scoop a limited edition shirt, hat and a nice feed to boot. Send your name and contact details HERE.

Ride the Bird in 2010!

 CHECK YOUR SPEED...

The police will be patrolling the Kings Highway during the event weekend, and have asked that all attending the event observe the changed speed limits and exercise caution when entering and exiting the venue. Check your speed. Keep your cool.

 STAY IN THE LOOP

If you have missed any of our Newsletters, you can view them HERE.

Welcome to Newsletter #8. It's on in less than 7 days! Take a few minutes to read it through and then send it on to your teammates. We look forward to seeing you at the Mont next weekend. Keep the rubber side down!

FROM THE RACE DIRECTOR

Hi riders, only 7 days before we'll be having fun in the forest at Sparrow Hill.
Now is a good time to remind ourselves of some key race guidelines, particularly:

  • You must wear an Australian standards approved helmet while riding
  • Both front and rear number plates must be easily seen
  • Walk through the timing tent
  • DO NOT crowd the transition area
  • STAY CALM in the finish chute... no need to stress
  • You must be carrying at least 800mls of water or sports drink when you leave transition on your lap
  • Night time requirements include a red rear light, one front light and a spare front light
  • Hand over your race passport to your next rider
  • Good sportsmanship is always welcome
  • Ride within your limits
  • Overtake only when safe to do so
  • And of course, the Race Director's decision is final.

Our aim is for you all to have a safe and fun race, so we're keen to reward riders who overtake safely and courteously - hence the introduction of rear numberplates this year. We are actively targeting aggressive overtaking manoeuvres and on-track bullying. There is no place for these attitudes in the MONT and penalties will be severe. That's right, rear number plates this year.

The track is looking great by the way and
features much of the track that you know and love and some interesting new sections as well.

See you next week.
David White

WIRELESS RESULTS AT THE MONT

This year we will be running a wireless router for the display of results at the Mont. This means you will be able to browse race results on your iPhone, smart phone, laptop or on the iMac computers at the Rego tent. Special thanks go to Mac1 for their assistance in configuring this for us.

CAMPING AT THE MONT - RESPECT THE VENUE

When choosing your campsite keep in mind the following.

RESPECT THE ENVIRONMENT & CAMP SMART Do not camp in the low lying areas in front of dams or under big trees. Do not damage plants in any way. We wish to protect the valuable riding amenity of Sparrow Hill and its surrounds. Do the right thing please, as your behaviour affects everyone.

DON'T RUBBISH SPARROW. You need to take out what you bring to the event. Bring some garbage bags to put general rubbish in and bring containers to correctly dispose of things like cooking fat, coffee grounds etc. Leave nothing behind when you leave. There will be plenty of trash packs around the venue to help.

CARPOOL. Reduce traffic congestion and carpool with your teamates. It might be a squeeze, but if everyone does their bit, you will get into the campsite quicker and with less stress. It's good for the environment too.

ENDURO MAG IN YOUR RACE BAG

Our media buddies at ENDURO have sent us their latest issue to include in team race bags. Now you'll have something to do when you're not cranking out laps... aside from talking up your performances. Enjoy, and thanks ENDURO.

RAWHIDE ROLLER RACING!

Rawhide Roller Racing will be held on Friday night before the Mont. Bikes are provided - 4 x groovy-as singlespeed bikes - identically geared - with good old fashioned toe straps. Set your seat height and race! A great reason to arrive early, set up and have some fun. Saddle Up! Go HERE for more information and to see roller racing videos.

GEAR, T-SHIRTS and DEMOS, DEMOS, DEMOS!

Sure there's a race on but we also know that teams racing also allows for plenty of time to check out what's hot at Race HQ. SRAM and JETBLACK will have plenty of the latest high end gear on display. Inspect JAYCO caravans on display, improve your street appeal with T-shirts from Apres Velo, and increase your energy levels with fantastic products from GU and WINNERS.

What... did someone say bikes? There will also be a grand selection of demo and display bikes at the Mont. Which brands? Well GT, PIVOT, IBIS, NINER, GIANT, SANTA CRUZ, CANNONDALE, TREK and MERIDA will all be there. Make time to try out a few bikes on our demo track or on course. Your best chance to try out some new toys.
