This interactive workshop explores the theory and practice of how our teaching methods do and can better educate students to be responsible in their communities, participate in civic programs, and develop the capacities to pursue just solutions in our society. Participants will examine the power dynamics, ethical commitments, and cultural practices embedded in our pedagogical choices through hands-on, collaborative activities. The workshop will be structured to provide material benefits to Greensboro’s day shelter for the homeless, the Interactive Resource Center, with a service-learning program of our own; we will then reflect on this work to come to understand different models for teaching and assessing democratic thinking and action.
