Regional Conference 4/8-4/10

box_top.gif

Welcome to February! It feels that January went by so quickly! We hope that all are weathering this winter quite well and surviving the cold. Take happiness in that many of us are much warmer than our brothers and sisters in other regions! Just one of the many benefits of being a member of the Southeast Region of the Association for Experiential Education! One of the other amazing benefits is our regional conference, which speaking of ... is rapidly approaching! That's right, even our website reflects this! Well, we have lot's in store this month, so lets begin!

Come check out our website!

Membership Support: Mr. Jimmy Forbes

GEDC0235 4After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2009, Jimmy headed west to explore the different paths of an outdoor education professional through seasonal guiding positions with the National Outdoor Leadership School and Adventure Treks.  His passion for adventure and education began over 10 years ago at a summer camp in Maine where he learned to sail and hiked Mt. Washington for the first time.  Just recently, Jimmy claimed Charlotte, NC as his new home.  When he is not outside exploring everything North Carolina has to offer, Jimmy works full time at Inner Peaks Climbing Center as the Director of Programs.  The indoor climbing scene has exploded, and Jimmy is excited to coach the youth competition team while exposing people to outdoor climbing on the weekends.  His overall vision is to help others realize and achieve their potential through experiences in the outdoor classroom.

It seems everyday new information is being released about the upcoming regional conference! Be sure to be in the know by following closely to our twitter page and facebook page for the latest up to the minute news!

Rebecca L. Carver Institute

Co-Sponsored by UNCG ‘s School of Education & the Team QUEST Program

This interactive workshop explores the theory and practice of how our teaching methods do and can better educate students to be responsible in their communities, participate in civic programs, and develop the capacities to pursue just solutions in our society. Participants will examine the power dynamics, ethical commitments, and cultural practices embedded in our pedagogical choices through hands-on, collaborative activities. The workshop will be structured to provide material benefits to Greensboro’s day shelter for the homeless, the Interactive Resource Center, with a service-learning program of our own; we will then reflect on this work to come to understand different models for teaching and assessing democratic thinking and action.
