    Saturday, October 10  | Michigan Union  |  9:30 a.m - 12 noon
Dear Vivienne,

We've got a major meeting for you this coming week!   The Ann Arbor Democratic Party joins the Michigan College Democrats on campus this Saturday to gear up for a critical year of activism.  We have very significant organizational duties to address, including amendments to our by-laws and election of our officer nominating committee.  Our program for the meeting includes meeting the great new leadership of the College Dems: these up and coming activists have already lobbied Lansing for higher ed funding, stormed the Diag for health care reform and burned some shoe leather on behalf of Mark Schauer's reelection, and it's just the first month! Then we'll talk with some of Ann Arbor's housing and homelessness activists about the challenges of the current economy and the coming winter (A2Chronicle Story).

Our meeting begins at 9:30 in the Kuenzel Room of the Michigan Union (floor plan) with our new member orientation.  The work starts at 10:00 with a welcome from and introduction to our campus colleagues.  We'll take up several business items next:

By-Laws Amendments
Amendments presented in September will be voted on this month.  The first allows the Party to consider and make endorsements in the August primaries. The second would restrict voting on party issues to individuals who have attended three of the last six meetings and would require the party secretary to maintain a more strict attendance record.
Governance Resolution  A resolution to ensure the smooth transfer of power between officers is offered, directing the current Vice Chair for Organizing to provide access to and control over the Party's web domain, aadems.org, to the current Vice Chair of Communications within the coming week.
Nominating Committee Election:

Five slots are open on the nominating committee, per the Party by-laws: one for each of the city Wards.  The committee will meet over the months of October and November to recruit and recommend candidates for the Party officer positions, which will be elected in December.  Interested individuals should contact Conan Smith at chair@aadems.org.

Finally, we'll wrap up with our discussion about the Ann Arbor housing and homelessness crisis.  Please join us and be a part of shaping Democratic politics in the Ann Arbor area!

As always, the Party will be collecting donations of canned goods for FoodGathers and welcomes your contributions to defray meeting costs.  Please be generous in this very hard time of year.

See you Saturday!

Conan Smith
Chair

Don't Forget Our Next Meeting:  Saturday, November 12
back at the Ann Arbor Community Center.
