Washington, D.C. – Silver Starr Art Studios LLC (SSAS) will host its Eighth Annual Art Exhibition at D.C.’s premier hotspot, LeftBank, on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009. This red carpet event will unveil internationally renowned visual fine artist Lisa Jones’s highly anticipated, “Heroes Collection.” This collection, which explores what is considered heroic, provides audiences with insight into several current local, national, and international heroes’ thoughts, struggles, and achievements based on Jones’s in-depth interviews. It also serves as a prelude to Jones’s debut book of the same title and captivating nature.
Creative, Stunning, and Bold are the perfect words to describe Lisa Jones’s artwork. Jones’s unique ability to create mesmerizing life-like scenes by manipulating light, shadow, and space presents viewers with illusory effects of her artwork lifting off the canvas, glass, or wood. Using everything from leaf paint to guitar strings, Jones’s pieces evoke powerful emotions, leaving viewers wondering how she arrives at such clever, multi-layered creations. Her artwork, both cultural and sensual, graces the walls of The Pentagon, New York Jets’ Kris Jenkins, singer Anthony Hamilton, producer Yvette Lee Bowser, entertainers the Wayans, and many more.
“Lisa Jones’s latest series, Heroes Collection, continues her well-established tradition of innovation in mixed media. These latest works capture her ability to blend the strength of her subjects with a touch of the enigmatic, making the Heroes Collection not a capstone, but rather an integral progression in her oeuvre," states Lucretia Young, Curator, SSAS Visual Fine Arts Division.
While tantalizing your eyes with Jones’s breathtaking artwork, you will enjoy the extraordinary sounds of SSAS Music Division artists’ Mycah Chevalier and Stephanie Todd. A portion of the event proceeds also will benefit two notable non-profit organizations, Off the Canvas and Virginia Leadership Institute.
