Big Win for Women, Children, and Families
Efforts to repeal and replace key provisions of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) failed overnight, as the latest bill was voted down in the Senate with a 49-51 vote. This is an incredible victory, as the legislation would have stripped one million Illinoisans of coverage, gutted Medicaid (1/5 of the total state budget), and eliminated essential health benefits such as maternity and newborn care and mental health services.
EverThrive Illinois applauds Senators Durbin and Duckworth for never wavering in their opposition of this bill, and thanks all of our Congressional Delegation that stood in support of access to high-quality, comprehensive, and affordable health care. Please take a few minutes out of your day and call them at 202.224.3124 to thank them for standing with all Illinoisans.
We also want to thank each one of you who called, emailed, attended rallies and town halls, shared Facebook posts and tweeted out in protest, and spread the word with those around you that the progress we've made in health care must not be lost. We encourage you to reach out your members of Congress and thank them for their efforts. This is one victory in what will be a continued fight for progress and protection of women, children, and families in all corners of Illinois, but we look forward to fighting beside you.
