FORA Draft Scoping Report Released - Public Meeting TONIGHT Wednesday August 29

fora 2

Consultants for FORA have completed a draft Scoping Report as part of the Base Reuse Plan reassessment process. The Plan contains a market study of economic conditions and predictions for future growth opportunities at Fort Ord. it also lists the policies in the base reuse plan and indicates whether these policies have been completed.

A public meeting to solicit feedback about the Report is scheduled for 6:30pm TONIGHT Wednesday August 29 at the Carpenters Hall, 910 2nd Ave, Marina.

The Report is posted online at:

Health Care Safety Net Expansion Assessment

Last month, the Board of Supervisors passed (4-1) a resolution discouraging the expansion of safety net health services until the completion of a Regional Assessment.

Supervisor Parker voted against this action, expressing concerns that the Board had not been given the opportunity to discuss important policy decisions related to the resolution. Even more concerning was the way in which the resolution was added late to the consent agenda making it difficult for the public to know about and comment on the issue.

You can watch Janes comments at the BOS meeting where the resolution discouraging expansion was passed at: (select the July 24th meeting and skip to item 21.1)

Following the Board decision, Jane consulted with local members of the community who were clear that they felt there were significant unmet health and dental needs in Seaside and on the Monterey Peninsula. This feedback is supported by the Health Departments recently completed Strategic Plan and Phase 1 of the Regional Assessment. Both documents identify Seaside (and the Monterey Peninsula) as having the need for additional safety net health care providers. (Contact us at to request a copy of the Phase 1 Assessment.)

A Public Hearing will be held later this fall to solicit public comment about Phase 2 of the Regional Assessment.

Please email Supervisor Parker at to share your thoughts about this important issue or to let us know that you would like to be added to the distribution list for updates.
