Twitter Hashtag: #3dnc

Many entrants plan to post Twitter updates of their progress (or growing insanity) during the upcoming contest. If you want to do the same, try using the hashtag #3dnc to be part of the larger conversation. But don't spend too much time on Twitter (or Facebook or the chat room) ... if you aren't writing your novel, you're better off walking, eating, sleeping, weeping or otherwise refuelling your brain.

More Entrant Success Stories

A few more novels that began as 3-Day drafts are finding their way to the bookstores.

  • Christopher Meades, a long-time contest veteran from Vancouver, has signed a three-book deal with ECW Press. The first of his upcoming fiction series to be released by ECW will be The Three Fates of Henrik Nordmark, which he wrote during the 2007 3-Day Novel Contest and which was one of that year's finalists. The Three Fates of Henrik Nordmark will be released in fall 2010.
  • Breakwater Books has released Tantramar, a coming-of-age story written by Eric Sparling of Guelph, Ontario, during the 3-Day Novel Contest several years ago. The St. John's Telegram says Tantramar is "an accomplished and multi-layered piece of work," and the Argosy says "Eric Sparling’s first book is a novel of genuine sentiment, quiet wisdom, and darkly funny prose."
  • Brenda Niskala of Regina says the 3-Day Novel Contest was her "breakthrough into longer form." A revised version of her 2004 entry, Of All the Ways to Die, will be released as a novella by Quattro Books this coming fall.

Keep an eye out for these new additions to the 3-Day genre. And if something great came out of your 3-Day Novel experience, let us know at info@3daynovel.com.

Past Winner News

Two of our past winners, Hayden Trenholm and Brendan McLeod, keep giving us stuff to write about. Hayden, who now lives in Ottawa, is about to release another novel. Steel Whispers is an "edge-of-your seat amalagam of police procedural and razor-sharp science fiction." Find out more at Bundoran Press.

Brendan McLeod, meanwhile, is releasing a solo CD. Little Troubles, Live is a mix of the songs, poems, stories, and bits of energetic banter from McLeod's performances. It chronicles the difficulties that result from being a person in the world, "from oversized sweaters and break ups to funerals and robberies, serving up a manifold world of earnest difficulties and uneasy conclusions with humour and heart." Don't miss his CD release party at the Anza Club in Vancouver on August 26.
