  Last Days to Register!

3-Day-Button_120px_160px-Do-Not-Disturb.jpgThere's only four more days until the 32nd Annual International 3-Day Novel Contest. Which means there's only four more days to register. As of midnight this Friday night, hundreds of writers all over the world will begin madly hammering out their novels, which must, at all costs, be finished by midnight on Monday. We can't wait to see what crazed prose and bursts of genius this year's contest will produce!

As the contest nears, the panic sets in for writers who have already signed up. From Canada to Sweden to Japan, they're refining, revising or abandoning their ideas...or just trying to come up with one in the first place.

For those who haven't yet signed up, you have until closing time on Friday to get your registration to the post office. Writers in Vancouver have a little more timewe'll be holding our usual last-chance registration drop-off at Lugz. Come hand in your registration, or just pop by to chat and meet with other entrants.

Vancouver registration drop off: Friday, Sept. 4, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.,  Lugz Coffee Lounge, 2525 Main Street, at Broadway. (Please note: do not leave registrations at the cafe outside this timeput them in the hands of 3-Day personnel only.)

A Couple of Type-A Entrants

Every year there's a few entrants who think the contest doesn't provide quite enough pressure. So they ramp up the stakes a little bit, writing in treehouses, at work, at a wedding, through labour pains or on TV. Here's a couple of this year's type-A 3-dayers:

A writer from Cortez Island, BC, is doing the contest while managing a retreat for other entrants in her community. The 18 writers plus various support people represent 2% of the total population of the island. During the contest, they'll hole up at the Whaletown Institute, where volunteers will feed them and give them backrubs. (Backrubs!) She has already arranged writing workshops for her group to prep them on character, scene and
outline development.

Krista Pavane and her daughter, Season Hunt, are contest veterans who decided to increase the challenge this year by writing in public at the Evergreen Cultural Centre in Coquitlam, BC. They'll be spending the entire contest writing in the glass-enclosed lobby, in full view of the public. Find them at 1205 Pinetree Way in Coquitlam if you want to offer your support.

3-Day Book News
