Flipping the Switch to Light Up Central Market
 collage

New installations combine art and technology to illuminate San Francisco’s Central Market, an exceptionally dynamic downtown neighborhood.

Join us on September 30, 6:30–8:00 p.m., at 1028 Market Street, San Francisco, when we gather to flip the switch to Light Up Central Market.

Funded by a $100,000 Rainin Foundation grant and led by San Francisco's Luggage Store Gallery, Light Up Central Market celebrates the vibrancy and innovative spirit that infuse this neighborhood. Select murals and a spectacular 10 x 24 foot interactive bench will be illuminated to invite a diverse group of people to engage with each other and their city.

This initiative is a brilliant example of how cross-sector collaborations and public art are helping support places where people want to live, work and play.

We're planning a schedule of activities for the September 30 launch with the Luggage Store Gallery, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the City of San Francisco. Event highlights include a participatory Crochet Jam, a dance performance by a trio of local artists, as well as prototypes from the Market Street Prototyping Festival. Visit our website for more details.
