Dear {FIRST_NAME}, I want to thank all of the members who attended and provided great ideas at the 2nd Quarter Meeting. If you were not able to attend, we missed your voice but you may review the WORKSHOP SUMMARY to stay up-to-date on where your Coalition is headed!
Remember, you and your Coalition are the prevention drivers in Nevada County. I can only imagine how each of you will work your magic by utilizing your strengths, knowledge, and community relationships to make regular assessments and referrals by all pediatricians a reality for families who may need substance abuse treatment or support in Nevada County. Providing the perception of a seamless process for patients and families from assessment to referral then to treatment seems to be an objective that Nevada County Public/Behavioral Health, CoRR and other Treatment professionals have desired to see for some time. What an effective prevention tool you'll be providing for generations to come. This is true environmental change! We will be sure to keep you informed throughout the year as things progress and we encourage you to get involved!
We would like to hear from you! If you are new to the Coalition or you would like some one-on-one time with Coalition staff, to learn what it takes to be a successful Coalition and how you can take ownership in providing your personal strengths, please don't hestitate to CONTACT us! Thank you for all that you do!
Take care,
Tasha Meyer Program Manager

Screening and Brief Intervention: Making a Public Health Difference Your Coalition will be working together to develop the best strategy to be able to provide SBIRT training to pediatricians, clinics, and physicians county-wide. One of the tools in the training involves CRAFFT questions. Some of your members recently suggested we train teachers, mentors, youth-serving organizations, parents, grandparents, and Big Brothers or Big Sisters to use the CRAFFT questions....right now. What a great idea!
This makes me think on our Prescription Drug Collection Day...it was something we could do right away to prevent access and we prevented teens from gaining access to 300lbs of prescription drugs within four hours. I hear so many of your concerns and desires to use some of our prevention energy on younger children to battle substance abuse and the many correlated issues at earlier stages. Providing an experience which feels like a seamless process for patients and families from assessment to referral then to treatment seems to be an objective that Nevada County Public Health, CoRR and other treatment professionals have desired to see for some time.

Do you have a computer? Would you like to help with a small project for NEO? NEO needs help creating their new list of contacts. They have a huge box of entry forms on which youth gave their information to be kept in the know about NEO events, activities and resources. What they need is for someone to enter this information on a spreadsheet created and formatted in Excel. This will be a big help to the NEO Coordinators that will use the list to email, and call with information.
Contact us at: 530-273-9541 ext. 220 if you would like to help. |

Resources: Do You Have A Teen In Your Life?
Do you have a teen in your life? Do you sometimes hesitate to ask questions or monitor your child for fear of smothering him? Do you suspect that your teen is hanging around the wrong crowd or could potentially be engaging in some risky behaviors? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, then you’d probably benefit from hearing “Conversations for Parents” and reading expert advice based on these specific situations. Time to Act! How to Tell if Your Teen Is Using and Taking Action To Intervene
This resource from Partnership for a Drug-Free America (PDFA) helps parents take action if they think their children are using drugs.
"Time to Act" brings to parents scientific knowledge about where to turn or what to do when they suspect that their children are using. The resource includes multi-media and other user-friendly techniques that build upon parents' own state of awareness about their child's situation, with specific suggested actions for them to follow.
The recommendations are straightforward, science-based, and delivered by experts as well as other parents who've seen, heard and experienced it all.
