Alabama Dance Festival Faculty Proposals must be received by August 1. Financial Need and Ambassador Applications are due on October 1. Performance applications for the New Works Concert and Festival Showcases are due on November 1.

July 28: Back by popular demand is Children’s Dance Foundation's summer contemporary dance series taught by CDF and guest teaching artists. Advanced level ages 15 and up. Click here to Pre-register and Pay: $75 (a $21 savings!) / Drop in basis: $12 per class ($10 for Alabama Dance Council Members). The final class is next Monday!

July 28-Aug 1: Session II: July 28-Aug 1. Does your little one dance around the house pretending to be Cinderella or the Sugarplum Fairy? Is "Barbie Swan Lake" in heavy rotation on your DVD player? Then Tutus & Tiaras is for you! For one week, four hours a day, children ages 4- 7 will take age appropriate ballet and tap classes, create ballet-oriented crafts and learn how ballet dancers tell stories with pantomime. During these four hours, the children will also have a story time where they can learn the story of ballets such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, The Sleeping Beauty and other classical ballets. They will need to bring a sack lunch. At the end of the week, parents are invited to observe as the children put on a performance.

July 29 & 31: Ebony Arrington Dance and Performance and SISTA, Inc. present Intermediate and Advanced Master Classes with Keith Cross, often referred to as the Ballet Dancer’s Master Jazz Teacher. Mr. Cross is Founder of Tendu Inc., Artistic Director of Texas Dance Theatre (1990-1998), and Master Teacher for Cross Jazz Tours, Owner of American Jazz Dance Convention. The Intermediate Class for ages 8-15 is July 29, 6:00-7:30pm and the Advanced Class for ages 16 - up is July 31, 6:00-7:30pm. Adults, teachers, pre-professional & professionals welcome! Both classes are at Children's Dance Foundation, 1715 27th Court South, Homewood, AL 35209. The class fee is $35.

July 30: Please join Youssouf Koumbassa for an amazing high energy class with live drumming provided by local artists Mitch Caponetto and John Scalici & Friends. All levels are welcome, ages 16+. The class is Wednesday, July 30, 6:30-8:00pm at the Alabama Ballet, 2726 1st Avenue South, Birmingham, 35233. The class is $13 and a $5 donation is requested for observing the class. July 30 & 31: Agile Physical Therapy, you premiere center for Dance Medicine, is holding the second "Get Smart, Stay Fit Dancer Seminar" on July 30th and 31st from 9:00am-12:00pm. The program will include 1) discussion on injuries, injury prevention, and tricks of the trade; 2) workout for stretching/strengthening training; 3) an intro to Pilates; and 4) special presentations by Dr. Reed Estes, M.D., UAB Sports Medicine,and Dr. Sophia Lal, M.D., Fagan Sports Medicine, over two days. Aug 2: There will be a master class for intermediate dancers ages 12 and up on Saturday, August 2, 2:00pm at the Carver Theatre in Birmingham. Dancer Katherine Files will teach choreography inspired from her four years of training with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, where she is a senior in the Alvin Ailey/Fordham University BFA Program in Dance. Katherine is also a graduate of the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

August 3-4: The Alabama Dance Theatre concludes the Summer Dance Seminar with two free performances of “Stars on the Riverfront” that will feature a unique array of classical and contemporary works. Aug 4-8: Come experience the exciting adventures of Clara and the Nutcracker Prince with The Alabama Youth Ballet Company this summer! In this one to two week workshop, children will experiment with movement, music, storytelling and costuming as they relate to ballet. Older students will learn about the audition process, stage direction and more, in a professional atmosphere. This workshop is open to all children and students ages 4 and up are invited to attend this one-of-a-kind workshop in our area. Children will choreograph some of their own segments during the week to relate the story through their own feeling of dance. Come and learn these dances before the audition season begins. Experience on pointe is required for variations and the pas de deux.
