Open House for Dance Africa Birmingham Fall 2014 Project
Sept 7: The Bargain Costume Closet is a GREAT place to find a Halloween costume for any age or dress up clothes for your little one! There’s dancewear, too. And, its all at a great price! The 9th-annual SALE will kick off on Sunday, September 7, 2014, 2-4pm and will go through September 20th. Early shopping begins at 1:30pm on Sept. 7. You will receive an early shopper pass when you donate to the closet. Donations are welcome any time of the year! Sept 8-Dec 20: Children's Dance Foundation announces an Adult Contemporary Dance class taught by CDF Artistic Director Heidi Stoeckley on Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30, beginning September 2 – December 20. The class is on a drop-in basis at $10 per class or $142 for the semester. The Curriculum builds skills and knowledge of Martha Graham’s core strengthening concepts and floor work, Jose Limon’s fall and release methods of travel, and Ballet placement and coordination.


Sept 20 & 27: Nathifa Dance Company & Outreach, Inc. announces an Open House for the DANCE AFRICA BIRMINGHAM Fall Project 2014 on September 20th & 27th. Classes will start in October and run through December on Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Classes will consist of African dance, drums and fabric design. Participants and members from NDC will present their work during two Kwanzaa celebrations. A limited number of scholarships will be offered. Sept 21: Alabama Dance Theatre will host an open audition for children, men, and boys to be a part of the upcoming performances of “Dracula” and “Mistletoe.” Children’s auditions for “Dracula” and “Mistletoe” will be held on Sunday, September 21st at 5:30 p.m. Parts are available for children in second grade to age 12. Boys and Men are needed for “Dracula.” Auditions for Men and Teen boys will be held at 6:30 p.m. Men and boys will be judged on acting. Wear comfortable clothing and come blood thirsty. The auditions will be held at the Armory Learning Arts Center, located at 1018 Madison Avenue, Montgomery. More info: call 334-241-2590.


Sept 26-28, Oct 3-5: Alabama Ballet at Home features selected repertory, including an encore of Agnes DeMille’s Rodeo, all performed in the Ballet’s home studio. With complimentary drinks and a more personal atmosphere, Alabama Ballet at Home is a great way to introduce friends and family to the excitement of live performance. October: Professional Modern/Contemporary Dance Movement Workshop Series taught by Sanspointe Dance Company members. $18 drop-in or $15 if registering for all four classes in the series. Special discounted Trip the Light concert ticket ($15 value) available if purchasing the entire workshop series. Classes meet from 10am-Noon every Saturday in October at Children's Dance Foundation. Class will be geared towared Intermediate level and up. Register here!
