ALABAMA DANCE COUNCIL RECEIVES $75,000 NEA AMERICAN
MASTERPIECES GRANT TO PRESENT MERCE CUNNINGHAM DANCE
COMPANY AT THE ALABAMA DANCE FESTIVAL
Birmingham Added to Final Legacy Tour for 2011
The Alabama Dance Council will make dance history by presenting the Merce Cunningham Dance Company (MCDC) with performances of XOVER, Crises, and BIPED at the 2011 Alabama Dance Festival scheduled January 27 - 30 in Birmingham. The residency will be part of the company's final Legacy Tour and their first and only performance in Alabama. In support of this historic event, the Alabama Dance Council is receiving $75,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts' American Masterpieces program just announced April 22. Read More.

RHYTHM WORLD is the oldest and most comprehensive festival of American tap and contemporary percussive arts in the world. RHYTHM WORLD features an extraordinary master faculty of 24 teachers and two weeks of performance, education and community outreach programs including free public performances at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, tap jams at the Chicago Cultural Center's Claudia Cassidy Theater, student showcases, panel discussions and extraordinary faculty concerts at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago.

Falling on May 25 every year, National Tap Dance Day is a celebration of tap dance as an American and worldwide art form. National Tap Dance Day can be celebrated with an event which may be organized by a studio, festival, professional company or tap dance interest group.

South Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts will offer a limited number of professional development travel subsidies for non-profit presenting arts organizations in our nine-state region to attend the 2010 Performing Arts Exchange (PAE), September 29 - October 2, 2010 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This program will provide financial support for conference expenses. Applications must be RECEIVED by Tuesday, June 1, 2010.
