The Alabama Dance Council is proud to announce the dates and the guest company for the 2016 Alabama Dance Festival! For all you ballet lovers, the Festival is proud to present Jessica Lang Dance in partnership with Samford University! So, please mark your calendars now and plan to attend: January 29, New Works Concert, 8pm; January 30, Jessica Lang Dance, 8pm; January 31, Alabama Dance Festival Showcase, 2:30pm. All performances are at the Leslie S. Wright Fine Arts Center. The date for Dance Across Birmingham will be announced soon!

May 29-30: Downtown Dance Conservatory presents Linze McCrae's Princess of the Highlands on May 29-30, 6:30 pm at Wallace Hall Fine Arts Center, Gadsden State Community College. Loosely based on the legend of Lady Catherine Gordon, a Scottish born noble woman during war torn Scotland, the Princess of the Highlands was written by artistic director of the DDC, Linze Rickles McRae. The production includes a cast of 450 students currently training in dance education at the Conservatory. The show features six handpainted backdrops and a host of wildly original choreography, costuming, and scenery. Tickets can be purchased at the front desk of the Mary. G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts or online at www.wallacehall.org.

June 1-July 16: The Alabama Dance Theatre will be offering summer classes in classical ballet (pre-ballet to the professional level), pointe and variations, pas de deux,, composition, modern, jazz, hip-hop, contemporary, tap, and “Back to Dance”. Session I is June 1st – June 18th and Session II is June 29th - July 16th. There will also be a “Tutu’s and Tiaras” camp for ages 3-8 June 22nd – 26th. The Alabama Dance Theatre Summer Seminar for intermediate and advanced dancers will be held July 20th – August 3th. Classes will be held at the Armory Learning Arts Center, home of the Alabama Dance Theatre located at 1018 Madison Avenue. June 6: Join J. Lockhart Performing Arts Institute for our annual summer dance concert on June 6 at 6:00PM in the Huffman High School Theatre. We will present a soulful rendition of FROZEN, a real treat for the entire family. Tickets are available at tututix.com/paidance or paidance.org.

PAI is more than a studio. We are an educational and performance institution for children, youth and adults who love to sing, dance or act for recreation or who have a passion to pursue a career in the arts.

June 9-July 21: The K-12 Alabama Dance Educators Network, members of the Alabama Dance Council teaching in public schools, is launching a Summer Dance Class Series open to all middle school and high school dance students. Classes are $5/class and registration is 30 minutes prior to the class start time: 4:00-5:30pm beginner/intermediate; 5:30-7:00pm intermediate/advanced, at Children's Dance Foundation. June 13: Natyananda" Dance of India presents a benefit concert for the earthquake victims of Nepal on June 13, 2 pm, at The Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Birmingham, 200 N Chandalar Dr, Pelham, AL 35124. The performance features guest artist from Chennai, India, rising star Venkatakrishnan Mahalingam, with Natyananda founder Sheila Rubin, graduates, and students in a full classical performance of Bharata Natyam. Delicious South Indian snacks will be served following the performance. $10 donation requested. ALL donations (tax deductible) will go through Heifer International to Nepal.

June 15-19: Sanspointe Dance Company will be hitting the road this summer in order to share solo and group Contemporary Dance choreography and performance within their home state of Alabama. ALL performances are FREE. Master classes are FREE, unless denoted with a ($). Master classes are for intermediate level/teenage to adult. Each performance will include a Q&A session afterward.

June 15-19: The FILES Arts Project Dance & Music Workshop 2015 will be held on Monday, June 15 - Friday, June 19 at The Carver Theatre in Birmingham. Our workshop offers rigorous training for beginner dancers & musicians ages 6-11, and intermediate dancers & musicians ages 12 & up. Our dance classes, which feature Ballet, Horton, Graham, & Jazz techniques, provide dancers the opportunity to refine their skills, explore the latest in modern/contemporary movement, injury prevention, and more! The goal of the music classes is to teach saxophone & flute fundamentals like tone production, technique, phrasing, and advanced concepts will also be introduced. How to prepare for auditions (College or All-State) will be covered. This is a free workshop sponsored by The Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame, and space is limited! .

June 22-July 3: Join the Alabama Ballet for a 2-week Junior Ballet Camp for dancers 8-12 years of age. Students will take age appropriate ballet classes, learn modern dance and jazz technique, and take character and/or theatre dance classes. All students will study dance history and prepare for an end of the session performance. Family and friends are invited to join us for this performance. Monday-Friday, 10:00 am-3:00 pm. July 6-25: The Hosanna Summer Dance Festival offers to dancers and the arts community an inspirational three weeks of high caliber dance training and concerts while honoring and serving God. This event is staffed by a coalition of highly esteemed Master Class dance instructors, choreographers, and directors from across the nation. Master Class dance styles include: Classical Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Modern, Character Dance, and Conditioning.

This truly unique event encourages dance students to develope as young artists through Master Classes of varying styles and specialized dance electives. A three week mentoring program offers a trainee the opportunity to fine tune their professional aspirations through company classes, rehearsals, and evening concert performances.
